Creating a Discord Bot for Stable Diffusion Images

In this article, we will explore the process of creating a Discord bot that utilizes Stable Diffusion to generate images. The idea for this project originated from a friend who wanted to try stable diffusion but lacked programming skills and a GPU. To address these constraints, I offered to run stable diffusion through a Discord bot on my computer. Additionally, I decided to make the Discord server public to make stable diffusion more accessible for everyone.

Introduction

Stable diffusion is a remarkable piece of software that generates stunning images. However, many individuals face difficulties installing it successfully. By using the Discord app, anyone can now witness the capabilities of stable diffusion without the hassle of installation.

Creating a Discord Bot

To make stable diffusion accessible through Discord, a Discord bot was created. This bot allows users to generate images using stable diffusion conveniently. The bot is designed to be user-friendly, making it easy for everyone to use.

Making the Discord Server Public

Previously, the Discord server for stable diffusion was private and limited to selected users. However, due to growing interest and demand, the server has been made public. This change enables more people to join the server and explore the potential of stable diffusion.

Designing the Bot

There were two options for hosting the Discord bot. The first option was using an online hosting service that provides GPU capabilities. While this could ensure consistent uptime and faster image generation, the cost of such services was prohibitively expensive. The Second option was to utilize my own computer at home, which already had a spare NVIDIA 1070 GPU and the necessary components.

Hosting Options

After considering the costs and practicality, I decided to host the Discord bot on my personal computer. The only additional expenses incurred are for electricity, as this computer remains powered on 24/7. However, I am willing to bear this cost to offer the stable diffusion Discord bot to anyone interested.

Hardware Specifications

The computer hosting the Discord bot is equipped with a 3.9 GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPU with 8 GB of VRAM, and a 120 GB solid state drive (SSD). While the CPU's clock speed is not a critical factor for stable diffusion, the remaining hardware components provide sufficient resources to generate images.

Speed and Performance

Although the hosted computer may not match the speed of dedicated hosting services, it can still produce images at a reasonable rate. With the default settings, the bot takes approximately 30 to 35 seconds to generate a 512 by 512 pixel image. It is important to note that this is not the optimized version of stable diffusion, but rather the official version with a slight modification to decrease the model size.

Queue System

To effectively manage multiple user requests, the stable diffusion Discord bot employs a queue system. When a prompt is submitted, it is stored in a queue Based on its arrival time. The computer processes each prompt in the order it was received, allowing an efficient and fair distribution of image generation. However, as there is only one spare GPU available, the bot can only handle one prompt at a time. This means that if there are multiple requests in the queue, there may be a short wait before receiving the generated image.

Fair Usage Policy

To ensure fair usage and prevent abuse or excessive requests, users are advised not to submit a large number of Prompts within a short period of time. Doing so may disrupt the experience for others, as it could lead to longer waiting periods. Additionally, it is essential to refrain from submitting prompts that contain explicit content.

User Instructions for the Bot

Using the stable diffusion Discord bot is straightforward. There are two commands available:

  1. make image: To submit a prompt for image generation, Type .make image followed by your prompt enclosed in quotation marks. The bot will save your request in the queue and respond accordingly, providing an estimated waiting time. Once your image is ready, it will be automatically sent to you.

  2. status: To check your Current position in the queue and the estimated waiting time for your image, type .status in the Discord Channel. Note that this command will only display information for your first prompt if you have submitted multiple prompts.

Future Plans and Enhancements

The development of the stable diffusion Discord bot has been an exciting Journey. In the future, I plan to introduce additional features, such as image enhancement and higher image resolutions. If You have any suggestions or ideas for further improvements, feel free to share them in the comments.

In conclusion, the stable diffusion Discord bot offers a user-friendly and accessible platform for generating impressive images. By leveraging stable diffusion through Discord, more people can experience the remarkable capabilities of this software. Join the Discord server and start creating stunning images without the hassle of software installation.
