Overview

This comprehensive n8n workflow is designed to handle the entire content lifecycle automatically, turning raw keyword ideas into fully published, SEO-optimized WordPress posts complete with featured images. It solves the massive inefficiency of manual content creation by integrating a powerful sequence of n8n node actions. The n8n template begins by pulling content requirements from an Airtable database, then utilizes the OpenAI n8n node to structure, draft, and refine the article. Crucially, it incorporates steps for generating image prompts, creating the featured image via a third-party service (Leo), and performing vital SEO updates for tools like RankMath before publishing the final result to WordPress. This end-to-end automation built in n8n dramatically increases content velocity and consistency.

How it Works

The process initiates either via the Airtable Trigger upon a status change or manually using the Manual Trigger n8n node for testing. The n8n workflow first retrieves Brand Guidelines and Keywords from Airtable.

  1. Preparation and Loop: The data is aggregated and the Loop Over Items n8n node iterates over each target keyword.

  2. Content Structuring: The Create post title and structure n8n node uses the OpenAI integration (LangChain) to outline the post, utilizing the Wikipedia and HTTP Request tools for research.

  3. Validation and Chapter Writing: A consistency check ensures the structure is valid. The Split out chapters n8n node segments the outline, and the Create chapters text n8n node (another OpenAI call) generates the long-form content for each chapter.

  4. Publishing: The merged content is finalized and published immediately using the Post on Wordpress n8n node.

  5. SEO Optimization: The SEO Update for RankMath n8n node leverages AI to generate high-quality SEO meta descriptions and focus keywords. The workflow then uses an HTTP Request n8n node to push this SEO data to the RankMath API.

  6. Image Generation: The P1 Image Prompt n8n node generates an optimized image prompt. A sequence of HTTP Request n8n nodes interacts with the Leo image generation API (or similar), waiting for the image to be created, downloading the binary via the Download Image n8n node, and finally uploading it as the featured image to WordPress.

  7. Final Steps: The comprehensive n8n workflow concludes by sending a notification via Slack and updating the original record status back in Airtable.

Installation Guide

  1. Import: Copy the provided n8n workflow JSON and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'New' menu -> 'Import from JSON'.

  2. Airtable Credentials: Set up credentials for the Airtable n8n node. Ensure you configure the Base ID and Table Names correctly for 'GET Keywords' and 'GET Brand Guidelines'.

  3. OpenAI Setup: Configure the OpenAI LangChain n8n node credentials. This is crucial for the core content generation steps.

  4. WordPress Setup: Configure the Post on Wordpress n8n node with your WordPress site URL and credentials (API Key or username/password).

  5. External Services: Set up credentials for the HTTP Request n8n nodes interacting with RankMath, Leo Image Generation, and the Slack n8n node for notifications.

  6. Activate: Ensure the Airtable Trigger n8n trigger is correctly configured to listen for new content requests, and then activate the n8n workflow.

Node Details

This advanced n8n workflow utilizes many specialized nodes:

Airtable Trigger / Manual Trigger: The starting n8n trigger points. The Airtable n8n trigger initiates the flow when new content is requested.
Airtable Nodes (GET, UPDATE): Used to pull brand style guides and keywords, and to update the status of the content request upon completion.
@n8n/n8n-nodes-langchain.openAi (Content Generation): The primary n8n node for content creation. Multiple instances handle title/structure (Create post title and structure), chapter drafting (Create chapters text), and SEO optimization (SEO Update for RankMath).
@n8n/n8n-nodes-langchain.toolWikipedia / toolHttpRequest: These tools are configured within the LangChain n8n node to provide the AI with real-time research capabilities (RAG).
n8n-nodes-base.splitInBatches (Loop Over Items): This n8n node ensures that the workflow can process multiple keywords sequentially, preventing data mixing.
n8n-nodes-base.wordpress (Post on Wordpress): This critical n8n node handles the publishing of the AI-generated content directly to your WordPress site.
n8n-nodes-base.httpRequest (API Calls): Used extensively for custom integrations: pushing RankMath SEO data, interacting with the Leo image generation API (generate, poll, download), and uploading the final featured image to WordPress. This demonstrates the flexibility of a custom n8n node implementation.
n8n-nodes-base.wait: A necessary synchronization n8n node used during the image generation process to wait for the external API to finish rendering the image before proceeding to download.

  • n8n-nodes-base.slack (POST Blog Info): Used for notifying the team once a new article has been successfully published by the n8n workflow.
