Who is this best for?

  • SEO specialists and analysts who need automated, deep visitor behavior analysis.

  • Digital marketers who use Matomo for tracking and Baserow for centralized reporting.

  • Users looking for advanced n8n templates that integrate analytics platforms with large language models.

  • Developers or agencies aiming to create efficient, scheduled reporting pipelines using an n8n workflow.

Overview

Analyzing website visitor data, especially identifying patterns among highly engaged users, is critical but often time-consuming. This n8n workflow eliminates the manual effort by creating a complete AI agent pipeline.

The system starts with an n8n trigger set to run weekly, ensuring consistent reporting. It specifically queries Matomo for users who have visited the site more than three times in the last 30 days. This highly targeted dataset is then processed by a custom Code n8n node and sent to an SEO expert AI model (via OpenRouter/LLaMA 3.1) for analysis on common visitor paths and engagement recommendations.

This highly efficient n8n automation turns complex raw analytics data into clear, actionable business insights, which are then permanently stored in a structured Baserow database. This use of an n8n node to orchestrate data collection, AI processing, and storage demonstrates the power of utilizing n8n templates for operational excellence.

How it Works

This powerful n8n workflow is designed to run automatically on a weekly basis, initiated by the dedicated n8n trigger.

  1. Scheduling: The flow begins with the Schedule Trigger n8n trigger (or the Manual Trigger for testing). It is configured to run on a weekly cadence.

  2. Data Retrieval (Matomo): The first HTTP Request n8n node connects to the Matomo API. It specifically retrieves Live.getLastVisitsDetails for the last 30 days, filtering for visitors segmented by visitCount>3—meaning it only analyzes highly engaged users.

  3. Data Transformation (Code): The Parse data from Matomo Code n8n node takes the JSON output and iterates through each visitor item. It meticulously reformats the visitor ID, visit count, and every page action (URL, page title, time spent) into a clean, human-readable text prompt ready for AI consumption.

  4. AI Analysis (OpenRouter): A second HTTP Request n8n node sends this structured prompt to the OpenRouter API, leveraging a powerful model like LLaMA 3.1. The AI is instructed to act as an SEO expert and provide insights on user paths, popular content, and recommendations for improvement based on the data provided by the previous n8n node.

  5. Storing Results (Baserow): Finally, the Store results in Baserow n8n node receives the analyzed text output from the AI. It creates a new row in the specified Baserow table, logging the current date, the AI's detailed insights, and the blog/site name. This step concludes the scheduled n8n workflow, ensuring the strategic results are preserved.

Installation Guide

To deploy this automated n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it directly into your n8n instance using the 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. Set up Credentials:

Baserow: Configure your Baserow API credential. You will need to input your Baserow API key and select the correct database and table IDs within the final Baserow n8n node settings (Table ID 643 and Database ID 121 are placeholders).
OpenRouter (AI): The Send data to A.I. for analysis n8n node requires HTTP Header Authentication. Set the credential type to Generic Auth, configure it for HTTP Header Auth, and input the required values: Username/Header name as Authorization and Password/Header value as Bearer {YOUROPENROUTERAPIKEY}. Ensure there is a space after 'Bearer'.

  1. Configure Matomo: In the Get data from Matomo HTTP Request n8n node, update the tokenauth parameter in the Body Parameters section with your personal Matomo API authentication token. This token is crucial for the n8n workflow to access your analytics data.

  2. Activation: Enable the n8n workflow to allow the Schedule Trigger to run on its defined weekly interval.

Node Details

This n8n template utilizes several critical n8n nodes to achieve its automated objective:

Schedule Trigger: Serves as the primary n8n trigger, initiating the entire n8n workflow on a weekly recurring schedule, ensuring timely reporting.
HTTP Request (Matomo): This specialized n8n node fetches the raw Matomo data. Key configuration involves POST parameters defining the API method (Live.getLastVisitsDetails), the date range (last30), and the crucial segment filter (visitCount>3) to focus the analysis.
Code n8n Node (Parse data from Matomo): Essential for prompt engineering. This custom n8n node takes the complex JSON structure from Matomo and transforms it into a clean, contextualized text format ready for the large language model, ensuring the AI receives optimal input for analysis.
HTTP Request (OpenRouter): This n8n node handles communication with the external AI service. It uses JSON Body configuration to specify the meta-llama/llama-3.1-70b-instruct:free model and embeds the transformed data into the user message, setting the stage for the AI analysis.

  • Baserow n8n Node: The final action in this n8n workflow. It uses the create operation to save the AI's complex analysis into designated fields (Date, Note, Blog) within a specific Baserow table, providing a structured record of the SEO insights.
