Overview

Markdown-formatted text.

Automating outreach on professional networks like LinkedIn is crucial for scaling sales and recruiting efforts. This specialized n8n workflow solves the problem of manually checking connection status before sending a request. By integrating the Airtop browser automation tool, this n8n template can reliably navigate to a profile, extract the current connection status (1st degree, Pending, or Connect), and only execute the connection request if the 'Connect' button is present.

This ensures efficient resource usage and prevents redundant or failed actions. Furthermore, the n8n workflow handles conditional logic: it sends a request with a personalized message if one is provided, or a standard request otherwise, making it a highly flexible component for any sales tech stack.

How it Works

Markdown-formatted text.

This complex n8n workflow begins with one of two potential starting points, an On form submission n8n trigger for manual execution or a When Executed by Another Workflow n8n trigger for sequence integration.

  1. Input Unification: The Unify Params n8n node consolidates inputs (LinkedIn URL, Airtop Profile name, and optional Message) regardless of the starting trigger.

  2. Session Creation: An Airtop n8n node initiates a headless browser session using the specified pre-authenticated profile name.

  3. Navigation and Status Check: The workflow creates a new browser window and navigates to the provided LinkedIn URL. It then clicks the 'More button' and uses an Airtop extraction n8n node (Check connection status) to analyze the current state of the profile page (looking specifically for the keyword "Connect").

  4. Connection Gate: The Is a connection? switch n8n node routes the flow based on the extraction result:

If 'Connect' is found (Path 1): The person is not yet connected. The workflow proceeds to send the request.
If 'Connect' is not found (Path 2): The person is already a 1st-degree connection or a request is pending. The workflow terminates the Airtop session via the Terminate session n8n node.

  1. Conditional Send: If the connection path is chosen, the Click on connect n8n node is executed. A subsequent switch (Switch1) checks the message input field:

No Message: The flow clicks 'Send without a note' using the Send connection w/out message n8n node.
With Message: The flow clicks 'Add a note', uses the Type the message n8n node to input the custom text, and then clicks 'Send' using the Send connection w/ message n8n node.

  1. Final Cleanup: All successful connection paths conclude by terminating the Airtop session via the Terminate session1 n8n node.

Installation Guide

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it into your n8n instance via the 'New' menu -> 'Import from JSON'.

  2. Airtop Credentials: This n8n workflow relies entirely on the Airtop n8n node. You must set up your Airtop API credentials within n8n. If you do not have credentials named Airtop Official Org (as referenced in the template), you will need to create new credentials and update all Airtop n8n nodes to use the correct name/ID.

  3. Airtop Profile Setup: Ensure you have created an Airtop Browser Profile and logged into LinkedIn within that profile. The name of this profile must be provided as the airtop_profile input when running the n8n workflow.

  4. Activate: Save the n8n workflow and set it to 'Active' to enable the form trigger or external execution trigger.

Node Details

On form submission (n8n trigger):
Function: Serves as a manual entry point for the automation. It provides a simple web form interface.
Key Configuration: Defines input fields for 'LinkedIn URL', 'Airtop Profile (connected to Linkedin)', and 'Message'.
Unify Params (n8n node):
Function: Standardizes input data across different entry methods (Form or Sub-workflow execution).
Key Configuration: Uses expressions (={{ $json.linkedinurl || $json['LinkedIn URL']}}) to map input data to consistent keys like linkedinurl and airtopprofile.
Create a Session (Airtop n8n node):
Function: Initializes a new, controlled browser environment using the specified Airtop Profile that is authenticated on LinkedIn.
Key Configuration: Uses the dynamic value ={{ $json.airtopprofile }} for the profileName.
Check connection status (Airtop n8n node):
Function: Interacts with the live LinkedIn profile page to determine the connection status.
Key Configuration: Uses the extraction resource with a precise query prompt designed to return simple results like 'Connect', 'Pending', or '1st degree'.
Is a connection? (Switch n8n node):
Function: Core decision point, checking if the status returned by Airtop contains the word "Connect".
Key Configuration: Rule 1 checks if the model response contains 'Connect'; Rule 2 checks if it does notContains 'Connect'.
Click on connect (Airtop n8n node):
Function: Executes the click action on the primary 'Connect' button.
Key Configuration: elementDescription is set to 'Connect'.
Switch1 (n8n node):
Function: Determines whether to send the connection request with or without a personalized note based on the message parameter.
Key Configuration: Checks if message is empty (Path 1) or notEmpty (Path 2).
Terminate session / Terminate session1 (Airtop n8n node):
* Function: Properly closes and cleans up the remote browser session after the operation is complete (success or failure).
