Who is this best for?

  • Content teams needing rapid, consistent imagery for blog posts or articles.

  • Marketers looking to integrate branding (logos) automatically onto AI-generated assets.

  • Developers interested in complex n8n templates involving image manipulation and AI polling logic.

  • Users looking for advanced examples of HTTP Requests and Edit Image n8n node usage.

Overview

Generating high-quality, on-brand imagery quickly for web content can be a manual bottleneck. This advanced n8n workflow solves this by fully automating the process, combining the contextual understanding of GPT-4o with the speed of the FAL Flux image generation model.

The core value of this n8n automation is its ability to handle complex binary operations: it first uses an OpenAI n8n node to craft a refined, non-textual prompt. It then manages the asynchronous image generation via the FAL API, implements a necessary polling loop to wait for completion, and finally uses n8n’s powerful image editing capabilities to resize the generated visual (to 800x500) and composite the company logo onto it. The final branded image is then automatically archived in Google Drive. This specific n8n workflow is a robust foundation for modern content creation pipelines.

How it Works

This comprehensive n8n workflow follows a multi-step execution path:

  1. Initiation: The n8n trigger, currently set to 'When clicking Execute workflow,' starts the process, providing the article subject and a reference image URL.

  2. AI Prompting: The OpenAI n8n node, configured for GPT-4o, takes the subject and generates a highly specific, sharp image prompt (under 70 words, explicitly requesting 'no text or logos').

  3. Image Job Submission: An HTTP Request n8n node sends the GPT-generated prompt and the reference image URL to the FAL Flux /image-to-image endpoint. This starts an asynchronous generation job and returns a requestid.

  4. Polling Loop: The n8n workflow enters a polling sequence. A Wait n8n node pauses for 2 seconds, followed by another HTTP Request node (check image finish) that polls the FAL status endpoint using the requestid. An If n8n node checks if the status equals COMPLETED. If not, it loops back to the Wait n8n node.

  5. Image Retrieval: Once the status is COMPLETED, an HTTP Request node (Get image link) fetches the final image URL.

  6. Binary Processing and Branding: Two separate branches run in parallel: the generated image is downloaded and resized to 800px, while the company logo is downloaded from Google Drive and resized. The resulting binary items are merged.

  7. Compositing: An Edit Image n8n node (Composite image and logo) overlays the resized logo (data1) onto the resized generated image (data0) at a specified corner position (X=728).

  8. Storage: The final branded image is uploaded to the designated folder using the Google Drive n8n node, completing this powerful n8n templates execution.

Installation Guide

To deploy this specialized n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it into your n8n instance using the ‘Import workflow from JSON’ feature.

  2. API Credentials: Set up the required credentials:

OpenAI: Connect your OpenAI API key to the 'Create prompt for generate image' n8n node.
FAL AI: Input your FAL API key in the Authorization header for all HTTP Request nodes interacting with the FAL API (generate image, check image finish, and Get image link).

  1. Google Drive Setup: Connect your Google Drive OAuth2 credentials to the 'Save on drive' n8n node. Ensure you specify the target Folder ID where the final images will be stored.

  2. Logo Source: Update the URL in the 'Get company's logo' n8n node to point to a publicly accessible or authenticated direct download link for your branding asset (e.g., a direct link from Google Drive).

  3. Initial Data: Modify the 'Link image' n8n node to test the workflow with your desired initial subject and image_url data before connecting a dynamic n8n trigger.

Node Details

When clicking ‘Execute workflow’ (Manual Trigger): The starting n8n trigger point for testing this automation.
Create prompt for generate image (OpenAI/LangChain n8n node): Uses GPT-4o to transform a simple topic into an advanced, instruction-compliant image generation prompt.
generate image (HTTP Request n8n node): Submits the prompt to the FAL Flux image-to-image endpoint, initiating the generation process and fetching the request_id.
Wait & check image finish (Wait / HTTP Request n8n node): Implements a crucial polling mechanism to periodically check the AI generation status until it returns COMPLETED.
If3 (If n8n node): Core logic flow control that dictates whether the n8n workflow should continue polling or proceed to download the image.
Download image (HTTP Request n8n node): Downloads the completed binary file of the AI-generated image.
resize image & resize logo (Edit Image n8n node): Handles the preparation of binary data, ensuring the image is 800x500 pixels and the logo is correctly sized for compositing.
Merge Binary Items (Code n8n node): Custom scripting used to correctly combine the image and logo binary streams for the compositing operation.
Composite image and logo (Edit Image n8n node): Overlays the logo onto the main image at a defined position (positionX: 728) to complete the branding.
Save on drive (Google Drive n8n node): The final action, uploading the completed, branded image to cloud storage. This n8n node requires OAuth2 credentials and a specified Folder ID.
