Who is this best for?

  • Social media managers needing reliable content deployment automation.

  • Content creators who stage media assets in Google Drive or require robust cloud storage integration.

  • Agencies managing high volumes of Instagram content who need reliable n8n templates.

  • Users looking for advanced examples of combining file handling and social media API calls in a single n8n workflow.

Overview

This robust n8n workflow solves the complex problem of scheduling and publishing multi-image content (carousels) to Instagram. Manual posting, especially when sourcing images from external cloud storage like Google Drive, is time-consuming and prone to errors. This specialized n8n workflow streamlines the entire pipeline. It ensures that images are properly downloaded and uploaded via Cloudinary—a critical step handled by the HTTP Request n8n node for reliable media hosting—before interacting with the Facebook Graph API for final publishing. The automation provides a powerful example of how flexible n8n can be, utilizing a custom Code n8n node for aggregating media IDs and incorporating wait steps to handle API rate limits. This n8n workflow acts as a reliable content deployment system, providing real-time feedback via a Telegram notification upon successful completion.

How it Works

  1. Start: The automation is initiated using the 'When clicking ‘Execute workflow’' manual n8n trigger. Initial post data, including the Instagram Account ID and Google Drive file links, is set in the 'Prepare Data' n8n node.

  2. Iterate and Download: The 'Loop Over Items1' Split in Batches n8n node iterates over each file link. The Google Drive n8n node then downloads the corresponding file.

  3. Cloud Hosting: The downloaded binary data is uploaded to Cloudinary using the 'Upload images to Cloudinary' HTTP Request n8n node, generating a unique, public media URL.

  4. Individual Media Creation: The Facebook Graph API n8n node ('Create each Carousel Picture') uses the Cloudinary URL to create an individual media container ID, flagged as a carousel item.

  5. Data Collection: The custom 'Collect Media IDs' Code n8n node aggregates all the individual media IDs generated during the loop into a single array. This is vital for the next step of the n8n workflow.

  6. Assembly Delay: A 'Wait before Carousel' n8n node introduces a 20-second delay, ensuring the individual items are ready for assembly.

  7. Carousel Container: The 'Edit Carousel' Facebook Graph API n8n node uses the collected media_ids array and the post caption to create the final parent carousel container ID.

  8. Publishing Delay & Execution: After a 15-second delay ('Wait before Upload to Instagram' n8n node), the 'Publish Carousel to Instagram' Facebook Graph API n8n node makes the post live.

  9. Alert: A confirmation message is sent using the Telegram n8n node, finalizing the n8n workflow execution.

Installation Guide

  1. Import n8n template: Copy the provided JSON data and use the 'Import from JSON' function in your n8n instance.

  2. Credentials Setup: Configure the required credentials for all key services: Google Drive (for 'Download file1'), Cloudinary (configured as HTTP Basic Auth on the 'Upload images to Cloudinary' n8n node), Facebook Graph API (for all Instagram actions), and Telegram (for post notifications).

  3. Initial Setup: In the 'Prepare Data' n8n node, replace the placeholder values with the correct Instagram Account ID, the Google Drive links for the media, and the content caption.

  4. API Settings: Ensure the Cloudinary HTTP Request n8n node uses the correct upload_preset ('N8N Upload') as specified in the configuration.

  5. Execution: Once credentials and initial data are verified, you can manually execute the n8n trigger to run this automated n8n workflow.

Node Details

Manual Trigger ('When clicking ‘Execute workflow’'): Serves as the initial n8n trigger point for executing this content deployment n8n workflow.
Google Drive n8n node ('Download file1'): Downloads the binary content of the image files using the Drive link provided in the input data.
HTTP Request n8n node ('Upload images to Cloudinary'): Configured for multipart-form-data POST request, this n8n node securely uploads the images to Cloudinary for reliable hosting.
Facebook Graph API n8n node ('Create each Carousel Picture'): Creates temporary media IDs for individual images, setting the crucial iscarouselitem flag to true.
Code n8n node ('Collect Media IDs'): A highly customized n8n node that aggregates the generated media IDs from the looping process into a unified list, necessary for carousel creation.
Wait n8n node ('Wait before Carousel' / 'Wait before Upload to Instagram'): These n8n nodes introduce necessary time delays (20s and 15s) to accommodate processing time required by the Instagram API before the next action in the n8n workflow.
Facebook Graph API n8n node ('Edit Carousel'): Assembles the main carousel post, using the collected array of media_ids as 'children' and adding the post caption.
Facebook Graph API n8n node ('Publish Carousel to Instagram'): Executes the final publishing command, making the content live on the designated Instagram account.

  • Telegram n8n node ('Send Update Message'): Sends a success confirmation, completing the n8n workflow cycle.
