Who is this best for?

  • Digital Marketing Analysts needing deep, structured insights into competitor messaging.

  • PPC Managers requiring automated reporting on keyword-to-ad mapping and site link strategies.

  • SEO and SEM Professionals looking for highly actionable competitive intelligence without manual scraping.

  • Users seeking advanced examples of integrating n8n with SERP APIs and multiple Large Language Models (LLMs) in a single flow.

Overview

Keeping track of shifting competitor strategies in Google Ads is time-consuming. This specialized n8n workflow eliminates manual effort by providing an end-to-end competitive intelligence solution. The automation begins by fetching keywords from a Google Sheet. It then leverages the Bright Data n8n node to perform reliable, large-scale Google SERP scraping, ensuring accurate extraction of top and bottom advertisements. The extracted data is then fed through a multi-branched AI processing pipeline. This pipeline uses n8n node configurations with powerful models like Google Gemini and OpenRouter to analyze the psychological tone, value propositions, and site link strategies employed by competitors. Finally, all these structured insights are aggregated, and an AI agent synthesizes the findings into a clear, professional HTML email report, delivered via Gmail. This custom n8n template demonstrates the full potential of low-code automation combined with advanced AI, ensuring you stay ahead of the competition.

How it Works

The process is initiated by the manual n8n trigger:

  1. Trigger & Keyword Retrieval: The n8n workflow starts manually. The 'Get Keywords' Google Sheets n8n node retrieves the list of keywords and associated country codes for tracking.

  2. Looping & Setting Variables: The 'Loop Over Items' node iterates through each keyword entry. The 'set keyword' n8n node sets the required flow variables (search_term, country code).

  3. Data Scraping (Bright Data): The 'Fetch Google Search Results JSON' HTTP Request n8n node calls the Bright Data SERP API, passing the keyword and country code to scrape the live Google search results, returning structured JSON data containing ads.

  4. Ad Extraction: A filter checks for the presence of ads. If found, the 'extract ads' Code n8n node combines the top and bottom ads into a unified list of items for parallel AI processing.

  5. Parallel AI Analysis: The ads are sent to three distinct analysis chains:

Messaging Analysis: Aggregates data and uses an LLM chain to analyze value propositions, emotional hooks, and messaging patterns.
Site Link Mining: Focuses the LLM on extracting and categorizing site link extensions (CTAs, landing pages).
* Keyword Mapping: Instructs the LLM to map ad content back to the search term, analyzing messaging consistency across related keywords.

  1. Data Consolidation: The 'Merge1' n8n node combines the structured JSON outputs from all three AI analysis branches into a single data item.

  2. HTML Report Generation: The 'Generate HTML' LLM Agent n8n node takes the merged, structured data and, following complex instructions, synthesizes a professional, analyst-grade HTML email body.

  3. Delivery: The final 'Send a message' Gmail n8n node delivers the comprehensive report as an HTML email, completing the complex n8n workflow execution.

Installation Guide

To deploy this powerful n8n template, follow these steps:

  1. Import: Copy the provided n8n workflow JSON and import it into your n8n instance.

  2. Google Sheets Setup: Update the 'Get Keywords' n8n node with your Google Sheets credentials. Ensure the linked spreadsheet (a copy of the template provided in the sticky note) contains 'Keyword' and 'country code' columns.

  3. Bright Data Credentials: Configure the 'Fetch Google Search Results JSON' n8n node with your Bright Data HTTP Header authentication credentials. Verify the zone name in the body parameters matches your SERP API zone setup in Bright Data (e.g., serp_api1).

  4. AI Credentials (LLM Setup): This n8n workflow utilizes Langchain LLM nodes (Chat Models). Set up credentials for:

OpenRouter (used for failover/primary model).
Google Gemini (PaLM) API (used for primary/failover model).

  1. Gmail Configuration: Configure the 'Send a message' n8n node with your Gmail OAuth2 credentials and update the sendTo parameter with the desired recipient email address.

  2. Execution: Click the 'Execute workflow' n8n trigger to run the competitive analysis.

Node Details

  • Manual Trigger: The starting n8n trigger for executing the process on demand.

  • Google Sheets (Get Keywords): Fetches keywords and country codes from a predefined Google Sheet, initializing the competitive scan.

  • HTTP Request (Bright Data): The core scraping n8n node. It sends a POST request to the Bright Data SERP API to reliably scrape Google search results and extract ad blocks using dynamic data from the sheet.

  • Set (set keyword): Prepares the data payload for the API call, ensuring the keyword and country code are correctly mapped.

  • Code (extract ads): A crucial custom code n8n node that flattens the nested JSON structure, combining topads and bottomads arrays so that each individual advertisement becomes a unique item for subsequent AI processing.

  • Aggregate Nodes: Used in three branches (value proposition1, extensions, keywords) to combine all individual ad items back into a single JSON array, ready for complex Langchain analysis.

  • Chain LLM Nodes (Value Proposition, Site Link, Keyword Mapping): These are the primary AI processing steps. They define complex prompts, utilizing connected lmChat n8n node configurations (Google Gemini or OpenRouter), to perform deep, structured analysis on different aspects of the ad copy.

  • Structured Output Parser: Ensures the AI output is strictly formatted as JSON, making the results predictable and easy to manage in the downstream n8n nodes.

  • Agent (Generate HTML): This advanced Langchain n8n node acts as a reporting layer, synthesizing the analyzed data from the 'Merge1' node into a clean, professional HTML report format.

  • Gmail (Send a message): The final action n8n node, sending the AI-generated HTML content as an email report, using data dynamically generated earlier in the n8n workflow.
