  • Business Intelligence teams requiring structured, longitudinal competitor data.

  • Users looking for advanced n8n templates integrating AI agents and web scraping.

Overview

Manual competitive intelligence gathering is time-consuming and often reactive. This powerful n8n workflow transforms that process by automating the collection, analysis, and distribution of market signals. Running on a daily n8n trigger, the system simultaneously scrapes four critical competitor sources (main website, pricing, jobs, and press releases). The raw data is then fed into an advanced LangChain AI Agent running on GPT-4o. This agent uses specialized tools—including a Historical Data Comparison Tool—to detect pattern shifts, predict competitor moves, and assign a confidence score. The final, structured intelligence report is stored in Google Sheets for long-term tracking, making this one of the most strategic n8n templates available for competitive strategy. If major changes are detected, a critical alert is sent via WhatsApp, ensuring prompt stakeholder notification. Every n8n node is configured for maximum efficiency.

How it Works

This automation starts with a dedicated n8n trigger, the 'Daily Competitor Scan' Schedule trigger, which runs every morning.

  1. Initialization: The 'Workflow Configuration' n8n node injects the defined competitor URLs and reporting endpoints (Slack, Email) into the flow.

  2. Parallel Data Collection: Four concurrent HTTP Request n8n node operations scrape the competitor's main site, pricing page, job openings, and press releases, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

  3. Historical Context: Simultaneously, the 'Retrieve Historical Data' n8n node fetches past intelligence records from Google Sheets.

  4. Preprocessing & Consolidation: The 'Combine All Data' n8n node unifies the four scraped inputs. The 'Calculate Trend Metrics' Code n8n node combines this raw data with historical context.

  5. Core AI Analysis: The data is passed to the 'AI Intelligence Analyzer' (a LangChain Agent), which utilizes the powerful 'OpenAI Chat Model' (GPT-4o). This agent uses the 'Historical Data Comparison Tool' and the 'Web Research Tool' to generate strategic findings based on a detailed system prompt, forcing a structured JSON output via the 'Intelligence Output Parser' n8n node.

  6. Reporting & Storage: The 'Enrich with Metrics' n8n node prepares the final report structure. It then proceeds to the 'Store Historical Data' Google Sheets n8n node for archival.

  7. Alerting Flow Control: The 'Check for Major Changes' n8n node determines if the identified competitive shift is severe enough for a critical alert. High-priority findings are routed through the 'Route by Confidence Score' Switch n8n node, formatted using the 'Format WhatsApp Message' n8n node, and instantly delivered via the 'Send Critical Alert via WhatsApp' n8n node.

Installation Guide

To deploy this expert n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n workflow: Copy the provided JSON and import it into your n8n instance using the 'New' -> 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. Configure Credentials: Establish connections for the following services:

OpenAI API: Required for the GPT-4o model used by the LangChain Agent n8n node.
Google Sheets: Needed for the 'Store Historical Data' and 'Retrieve Historical Data' n8n node connections.
* WhatsApp Business API: Required to send critical alerts.

  1. Set Workflow Parameters: Open the 'Workflow Configuration' n8n node and replace all placeholder values (<PLACEHOLDER_VALUE...>) with the actual URLs for your competitor and your preferred recipient email/Slack channel ID.

  2. Activate the n8n trigger: Ensure the 'Daily Competitor Scan' n8n trigger is correctly configured for your desired time and activate the overall n8n workflow.

Node Details

Daily Competitor Scan (Schedule Trigger): The initiating n8n trigger, set to run once daily at 9:00 AM, ensuring consistent data collection.
Workflow Configuration (Set n8n node): Centralizes all dynamic variables, including four competitor URLs and two destination endpoints.
Scrape Nodes (HTTP Request n8n node): Four separate nodes ('Scrape Competitor Website', 'Scrape Pricing Page', 'Scrape Job Openings', 'Scrape Press Releases') execute parallel web scraping to gather comprehensive raw HTML data.
AI Intelligence Analyzer (LangChain Agent n8n node): The core intelligence engine. It orchestrates the analysis using GPT-4o, two tools, and a structured output parser.
OpenAI Chat Model (LM Chat n8n node): Specifies the use of the gpt-4o model for advanced analysis, defining the quality of this specific n8n template.
Intelligence Output Parser (LangChain Output Parser n8n node): Enforces a strict JSON output schema containing fields like keyFindings, competitorMoves, and confidenceScore.
Historical Data Comparison Tool (Code Tool n8n node): A custom LangChain tool implemented via an n8n node that allows the AI agent to compare current scraped data against historical records retrieved from Google Sheets.
Store Historical Data (Google Sheets n8n node): Archives the structured AI report for future longitudinal analysis.

  • Send Critical Alert via WhatsApp (WhatsApp n8n node): The final action for critical findings, immediately alerting stakeholders based on decisions made by the flow control n8n node.
