Who is this best for?

Content creators and marketers who need to archive or reuse LinkedIn video content.
Users looking for advanced n8n templates that combine external APIs (RapidAPI) with cloud storage.
Technical users requiring robust error handling and logging via a core logic flow control n8n node.
Teams seeking to automate video asset management using n8n and Google Drive.

Overview

Manually downloading and converting videos from social platforms is time-consuming. This powerful n8n workflow automates the entire process. It provides a simple form interface using the n8n trigger, handles the complex API interaction required for conversion using RapidAPI, and automatically stores the resulting MP4 file securely in Google Drive. Furthermore, the n8n workflow includes critical error handling using an If n8n node, ensuring that any failed conversions are logged directly into a Google Sheets document, providing complete transparency and reliability. This is an excellent example of utilizing multiple cloud services within a single, efficient n8n template.

How it Works

The n8n workflow begins execution with the On form submission n8n trigger. Users submit a LinkedIn URL via a hosted form.

  1. API Conversion Request: The submitted URL is immediately passed to the HTTP Request n8n node, which connects to the RapidAPI LinkedIn Video Downloader service. This node requests the downloadable media information.

  2. Conditional Check (Core Logic): The If n8n node analyzes the API response. If the response indicates success (i.e., no error field is present), the workflow follows the True path.

  3. Success Path (Download & Upload):

a. The Download mp4 HTTP Request n8n node fetches the binary video file using the provided media URL.
b. The Upload To Google Drive n8n node takes the binary file and securely stores it in the designated Google Drive folder.
c. The Google Drive Set Permission n8n node then adjusts the file's sharing settings, often making the resulting video publicly viewable.

  1. Failure Path (Error Logging): If the If n8n node detects an API error, it follows the False path.

a. A Wait n8n node pauses the execution momentarily.
b. The Google Sheets Append Row n8n node logs the original failed LinkedIn URL to a specified spreadsheet, noting that the Drive URL is 'N/A'. This logging is crucial for monitoring the reliability of this n8n template.

Installation Guide

To deploy this comprehensive n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n template: Copy the provided JSON code and paste it into your n8n instance using the 'New' -> 'Import from JSON' option.

  2. RapidAPI Configuration: Locate the HTTP Request n8n node. You must replace the placeholder 'your key' in the x-rapidapi-key header parameter with your actual key from the RapidAPI LinkedIn Video Downloader service.

  3. Google Credentials Setup:

Set up an OAuth2 credential for Google Drive and assign it to the Upload To Google Drive and Google Drive Set Permission n8n nodes.
Set up a Service Account credential for Google Sheets and assign it to the Google Sheets Append Row n8n node. Ensure this account has write access to your target spreadsheet.

  1. Google Sheets Setup: Configure the Google Sheets Append Row n8n node with the correct Document ID and Sheet Name where you wish to log failed transactions.

  2. Activate: Save the n8n workflow and activate the form trigger to start using this automation.

Node Details

On form submission (n8n Trigger): Serves as the initial n8n trigger. It exposes a simple web form to the end-user, collecting the mandatory URL input for the LinkedIn video.
HTTP Request (RapidAPI): This critical n8n node performs the conversion request. It uses the POST method and multipart-form-data content type, passing the user-provided URL to the RapidAPI endpoint.
If (Core Logic): Implements flow control. It checks the API response for an error key ($json.error). If the value is false, the process continues to download; otherwise, it branches to the error logging path.
Download mp4 (HTTP Request): This n8n node specifically handles file retrieval. It uses an expression (={{ $json.medias[0].url }}) to dynamically retrieve the high-quality MP4 download link provided by the RapidAPI response.
Upload To Google Drive (Google Drive n8n Node): Handles the file storage operation. It takes the binary data from the previous download step and uploads it to the specified 'My Drive' folder using the configured OAuth2 credentials.
Google Sheets Append Row (Google Sheets n8n Node): Located on the failure branch, this n8n node ensures accountability. It uses the append operation to log the failed URL and marks the Drive URL column as 'N/A'.
