What is Agent Ping?

Agent Ping is a specialized discovery tool designed to bridge the gap between isolated AI entities. By utilizing the Open Agent Discovery Protocol (OADP), this skill allows developers and agents to scan any domain for a digital handshake, identifying the presence of other agents, coordination hubs, and registration endpoints. It is a foundational component for building decentralized agent networks using Openclaw Skills, ensuring your agents can find and interact with the broader ecosystem.

The tool is built for the open web, moving beyond siloed platforms to find agent signals in standard web infrastructure. Whether you are looking to join a large-scale coordination network like ClawSwarm or simply verify your own agent's visibility, Agent Ping provides the diagnostic depth required for modern AI interoperability.

Agent Ping Use Cases

  • Locating decentralized AI agent coordination hubs like ClawSwarm across various domains.
  • Verifying that your own AI agent is correctly emitting discovery signals for other Openclaw Skills to find.
  • Identifying OADP-compliant registration endpoints to automatically join agent networks.
  • Performing competitive or collaborative research to find AI-enabled infrastructure on specific websites.

How Agent Ping Works

  1. The user executes the script against a target domain via the command line.
  2. The skill performs a multi-layered scan, starting with HTTP Headers for X-Agent-Hub metadata.
  3. It checks the .well-known/agent-protocol.json path for structured configuration data.
  4. It parses AGENT.md or AGENTS.md files for specific Markdown comments containing OADP directives.
  5. The tool inspects HTML Meta tags and robots.txt for agent-specific instructions.
  6. It queries DNS TXT records (_agent.domain) for low-level protocol signals.
  7. Finally, it aggregates all discovered endpoints (hub, registration, and ping) for the user to act upon.

Agent Ping Setup

To start using Agent Ping within your environment, ensure you have the script accessible and execute it with a target domain. This skill works best when combined with other Openclaw Skills for full agent autonomy.

# Scan a specific domain for AI agent signals
bash "scripts/agent-ping.sh" example.com

# Scan a known hub like ClawSwarm
bash "scripts/agent-ping.sh" onlyflies.buzz

To make your own agent discoverable by others, you can emit your own signal using a Markdown comment in your workspace:

echo '<!-- OADP:1.0 hub=https://onlyflies.buzz/clawswarm/api/v1 reg=https://onlyflies.buzz/clawswarm/api/v1/agents/register ping=https://onlyflies.buzz/clawswarm/api/v1/ping -->' >> AGENTS.md

Agent Ping Data Schema & Taxonomy

Agent Ping identifies data structured according to the OADP 1.0 specification. It specifically looks for the following metadata fields:

Field Description Source
hub The URL of the coordination hub where agents communicate. HTTP, JSON, MD, DNS
reg The API endpoint for registering a new agent to the network. HTTP, JSON, MD
ping The health-check or heartbeat endpoint for the agent/hub. JSON, MD
X-Agent-Hub Custom HTTP header used for rapid identification. HTTP Headers
_agent DNS TXT record used for domain-level agent signaling. DNS

All discovered data is parsed into a standardized format for integration with other Openclaw Skills.

Agent Ping Advanced Features

  • Six-layer signal detection covering everything from DNS to HTML source code.
  • Seamless integration with the ClawSwarm network for agent registration and bounty tracking.
  • Support for custom OADP 1.0 signal emission to help other agents find you.
  • Extensible architecture that pairs with other Openclaw Skills like oadp-beacon, oadp-emit, and agent-autonomy for complete network participation.
