What is ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness?

ARTA (Agentic Real-Time Awareness) is a lightweight, in-memory state management solution designed to solve the problem of agent fragmentation. In many environments, an agent operating across different sessions is isolated, unable to perceive its own actions elsewhere. ARTA creates a unified awareness graph, allowing an agent to maintain a coherent identity and query its own status across various communication channels.

As a foundational component among Openclaw Skills, ARTA acts as a local context broker. It allows agents to understand who they are talking to and what tasks they are performing in real-time, even if those interactions occur on different platforms like Telegram or Discord. This self-awareness is critical for developers building sophisticated autonomous systems that require a high degree of operational coordination without the overhead of external databases.

ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness Use Cases

  • Managing multi-session interactions where an agent needs to know if it is already assisting a user in another channel.
  • Preventing task duplication by querying the awareness graph before initiating new automated workflows.
  • Providing real-time status updates to humans regarding an agent's current workload across the entire process.
  • Enhancing the reliability of Openclaw Skills by tracking agent heartbeats and session lifecycles.

How ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness Works

  1. Registration: The agent instance registers its unique session ID, channel metadata, and initial task with the ARTA in-memory registry.
  2. State Tracking: Throughout the session lifecycle, the agent sends updates to the awareness graph to reflect changes in its task description or status.
  3. Querying: The agent or monitoring tools use the ARTA API to query the state of other active instances, filtering by human identifier or channel.
  4. Deregistration: Upon completion of its task or termination of the session, the agent removes its entry from the registry to maintain an accurate awareness graph.

ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness Setup

To add ARTA to your project, use the standard installation command for Openclaw Skills:

clawhub install arta

Configuration can be handled automatically through environment variables provided by the runtime, or manually specified:

# Optional manual configuration
export ARTA_AGENT_NAME="my-intelligent-agent"
export ARTA_CHANNEL_TYPE="discord"
export ARTA_CHAT_ID="987654321"

ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness Data Schema & Taxonomy

ARTA maintains an in-memory schema focused on session metadata. It does not store message content or sensitive credentials.

Property Description Example
instanceId Unique session identifier session-abc123
channel The platform and chat ID combination telegram:555666
human The identifier of the person interacting with the agent dev_user_01
task The current activity or goal of the agent code review
status Operational state active

ARTA — Agentic Real-Time Awareness Advanced Features

  • Cross-session querying allows agents to identify if the same human is interacting via different channels simultaneously.
  • Heartbeat monitoring tracks the last active timestamp for every registered agent instance within the process.
  • Seamless integration with Intent-Based Task (IBT) frameworks to inform the 'Observe' phase with global process awareness.
  • Privacy-first design that only processes metadata, ensuring that no sensitive bot tokens or message histories are ever stored.
