What is Claw Messenger?

Claw Messenger is a powerful integration for Openclaw Skills that empowers AI agents with mobile messaging capabilities. Unlike traditional solutions, it does not require a dedicated Mac Mini or a physical phone on the developer's side. By utilizing a shared infrastructure and a robust WebSocket protocol, agents can engage in real-time conversations across iMessage, RCS, and SMS platforms.

This skill is designed for developers who need their agents to interact with humans where they are most active—their mobile messaging apps. It simplifies the complex routing of mobile protocols into a streamlined plugin architecture, ensuring that Openclaw Skills remain highly accessible and communicative without the overhead of webhook management or public URL exposure.

Claw Messenger Use Cases

  • Enabling AI agents to send real-time status updates via iMessage to project stakeholders.
  • Automating SMS-based customer support or notifications directly from an AI workflow.
  • Facilitating secure, two-way communication between human users and agents using RCS for rich media exchange.
  • Coordinating group chats where an AI agent acts as a participant or moderator via mobile protocols.

How Claw Messenger Works

  1. The AI agent establishes a persistent outbound connection to the Claw Messenger server via a secure WebSocket.
  2. When an agent sends a message, the plugin transmits the data over the WebSocket to the Emotion Machine server.
  3. The server routes the content to the appropriate mobile network (iMessage, RCS, or SMS) based on the recipient.
  4. Inbound messages sent to the shared number are matched against registered phone routes and forwarded back through the WebSocket.
  5. The plugin delivers the incoming message directly to the agent's environment for processing and response.

Claw Messenger Setup

To integrate this into your Openclaw Skills workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Sign up at clawmessenger.com to obtain your live API key (starts with cm_live_).
  2. Install the plugin via the CLI:
openclaw plugins install @emotion-machine/claw-messenger
  1. Configure your .openclaw.json file with the following channel settings:
{
  "channels": {
    "claw-messenger": {
      "enabled": true,
      "apiKey": "YOUR_API_KEY",
      "serverUrl": "wss://claw-messenger.onrender.com",
      "preferredService": "iMessage",
      "dmPolicy": "pairing"
    }
  }
}
