What is Clawic CLI?

Clawic CLI is a dedicated tool for developers looking to expand the capabilities of their AI agents through a standardized, registry-based approach. It facilitates the discovery and management of Openclaw Skills, providing a secure and transparent workflow for integrating new functionalities into agentic environments. By anchoring the workflow on a manifest-driven model, users can ensure that every skill installed is verified and correctly mapped to their local workspace.

The utility is designed for high performance and privacy, utilizing local lexical matching for search queries rather than sending sensitive search data to remote APIs. Whether you are building complex automations or simply organizing your local skill library, Clawic CLI provides the necessary commands to maintain a robust ecosystem of Openclaw Skills.

Clawic CLI Use Cases

  • Discovering relevant Openclaw Skills through local lexical search based on product nouns.
  • Previewing skill manifests to inspect file structures and source repositories before downloading.
  • Installing specific toolsets into local project directories using deliberate destination control.
  • Configuring custom registry overrides for private or mirrored skill repositories.

How Clawic CLI Works

  1. The user synchronizes with the remote registry index to enable local searching.
  2. Commands are executed to filter the registry for specific Openclaw Skills based on lexical matching.
  3. A show command fetches the specific JSON manifest for a selected slug to verify its contents.
  4. The install command initiates a series of HTTP GET requests to download the files specified in the manifest.
  5. Files are written to the local file system in a structured directory, ready for agent consumption.

Clawic CLI Setup

You can use Clawic CLI either as a global installation or via npx for one-off tasks. Node.js 20 or newer is required.

# Global installation
npm install -g clawic

# Direct usage via npx
npx clawic registry
npx clawic search <query>

Clawic CLI Data Schema & Taxonomy

The CLI manages its persistent data and configuration within a dedicated directory in the user's home folder.

File Path Description
~/clawic/memory.md Contains runtime defaults, install roots, and review postures.
~/clawic/installs.md Tracks previously installed Openclaw Skills and their directory locations.
~/clawic/queries.md Stores effective query phrases for surfacing specific skills.
./skills/ The default root directory where installed Openclaw Skills are stored.

Clawic CLI Advanced Features

  • Custom registry support using the CLAWIC_REGISTRY_BASE_URL environment variable for private skill hosting.
  • Recursive manifest resolution to ensure all necessary files in a skill package are correctly downloaded.
  • Force overwrite protection requiring explicit flags to prevent accidental data loss in shared workspaces.
  • Detailed search strategy guidance to maximize the effectiveness of local lexical matching.
