What is Veto Approval?

Veto Approval is a critical safety layer designed for autonomous agents that handle high-stakes operations. By integrating this Openclaw Skills compatible module, developers can ensure that sensitive tasks—such as financial transactions or database deletions—never execute without explicit human consent.

The skill bridges the gap between AI autonomy and human oversight. It functions as a blocking call within your agent's logic, preventing the execution of downstream code until the designated approver interacts with a secure, 1-click email interface. This ensures that Openclaw Skills remains a safe ecosystem for deploying powerful automation.

Veto Approval Use Cases

  • Preventing accidental deletion or modification of production databases.
  • Authorizing large financial transactions or invoice deliveries.
  • Reviewing AI-generated content before it is published to social media or sent to clients.
  • Confirming high-resource cloud deployments in DevOps workflows.

How Veto Approval Works

  1. The AI agent encounters a high-risk task and triggers the ask_human_permission() function.
  2. The skill sends a structured HTML email to the specified user_email containing the action details and context.
  3. The function enters a polling state, checking the Veto API every 5 seconds for a status update.
  4. The human recipient clicks either Approve or Reject within their email client.
  5. The skill receives the signal, terminates the polling, and returns a boolean value to the agent to dictate the next logical step.

Veto Approval Setup

To get started with this component of Openclaw Skills, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain your API Key by signing up at vetoapi.com.
  2. Export your credential to your environment:
export VETO_API_KEY='your_api_key_here'
  1. Import the skill into your Openclaw Skills enabled project and call the permission function before sensitive logic blocks.

Veto Approval Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill processes the following parameters to facilitate the approval workflow:

Parameter Type Description
action_title string A clear description of the action (e.g., "Delete User Database").
user_email string The email address of the authorized human approver.
context string (Optional) Additional metadata or reasoning to help the human decide.

Veto Approval Advanced Features

  • Synchronous blocking to ensure zero execution before confirmation.
  • Multi-channel support for high-stakes enterprise decision-making.
  • Seamless integration with existing Python-based AI agent frameworks using Openclaw Skills.
  • Real-time polling logic with automated timeout handling.
