What is IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control?

This skill provides a programmatic interface to the IKEA Dirigera hub, enabling seamless control over a wide range of smart home hardware. By leveraging Openclaw Skills, developers can automate lighting levels, toggle smart outlets, and monitor device health directly through an AI agent or script. It is designed to bridge the gap between high-level commands and the physical Zigbee-based ecosystem managed by IKEA.

The integration handles the complexities of hub discovery, secure token authentication, and device state management. It focuses on reliability by providing patterns for reachability checks and attribute-based state access, ensuring that smart home automations are both responsive and accurate.

IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control Use Cases

  • Automating home lighting schedules and brightness adjustments based on user presence.
  • Monitoring battery levels of remote controllers to ensure uninterrupted smart home operation.
  • Triggering complex environmental scenes like movie mode or sleep routines via AI commands.
  • Managing power consumption by remotely controlling smart outlets and appliances.
  • Auditing smart home health by identifying unreachable devices or hub connectivity issues.

How IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control Works

  1. The skill utilizes a discovery script to locate the Dirigera hub's IP address on the local area network.
  2. A secure authentication token is generated, which requires a physical button press on the hub for security verification.
  3. Once authenticated, the skill initializes a connection to the hub using the dirigera library.
  4. It fetches a complete inventory of devices, including lights, outlets, and pre-configured scenes.
  5. Commands are dispatched to specific device IDs, with the skill verifying device reachability and reloading state attributes after every action.

IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control Setup

First, install the necessary Python dependency:

pip install dirigera

To find your hub on the network, run the discovery script:

python scripts/find_dirigera_ip.py

Generate your access token. Note that this requires you to physically press the button on the bottom of your Dirigera hub when prompted:

python scripts/generate_token_wrapper.py <dirigera-ip-address>

Once the token is saved, you can initialize the hub connection in your environment using the IP and the generated token string.

IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data by categorizing devices into functional types. All state-specific data is nested within an attributes object to ensure clean separation from metadata.

Data Component Description Key Fields
Core Metadata High-level device identification id, is_reachable, room
Device State Real-time status within .attributes is_on, light_level, color_temp
Capabilities Supported features per device can_receive, can_send
Automation Pre-defined hub scenes scene_name, trigger()

IKEA Dirigera Smart Home Control Advanced Features

  • Subnet scanning capabilities to locate hubs in non-standard network configurations.
  • Capability-based command validation to ensure commands are only sent to supported hardware.
  • Batch processing patterns for controlling entire rooms or groups of devices simultaneously.
  • Automated battery level reporting for all connected wireless controllers and sensors.
  • Support for custom token storage paths to integrate with different Openclaw Skills environments.
