What is Engage?

Engage is a powerful customer engagement platform built to help businesses cultivate stronger relationships through personalized communication and workflow automation. Marketing and customer success teams rely on it to manage user onboarding, announce product updates, and provide streamlined support. By integrating Engage into Openclaw Skills, developers can programmatically interact with organizations, pipelines, and user filters using the Membrane CLI, which handles the complexities of authentication and credential refreshing automatically.

Engage Use Cases

  • Automating the onboarding of new users through personalized messaging sequences.
  • Synchronizing account roles and user attributes across different marketing platforms.
  • Tracking behavioral events to trigger specific customer success workflows.
  • Merging duplicate user profiles to maintain high-quality CRM data.
  • Converting identified leads into account or customer types based on engagement metrics.

How Engage Works

  1. Install the Membrane CLI to provide the foundation for Openclaw Skills to interact with the Engage API.
  2. Perform a tenant-based login to authorize the agent with the necessary permissions.
  3. Establish a connection to the Engage workspace by providing the workspace URL for normalization.
  4. Search for specific integration actions like 'identify-user' or 'track-event' using natural language intents.
  5. Execute actions or proxy raw requests where Membrane injects the required headers and manages tokens.

Engage Setup

To get started with this integration for Openclaw Skills, install the global CLI and authenticate:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest
membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Create a connection to your Engage instance:

membrane connection ensure "https://engage.so/" --json

If the connection state is BUILDING, poll the status until it returns READY:

membrane connection get <id> --wait --json

Engage Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill manages data primarily through four core entities, ensuring all interactions are structured and predictable:

Entity Description
Contact Profiles containing user attributes, identification fields, and engagement history.
Account Higher-level organizational units representing companies or groups of users.
Engagement A log of interactions and events tracked for specific users or accounts.
Action Schema JSON-based input/output definitions for every available Engage operation.

Engage Advanced Features

  • Intelligent proxy requests that automatically append base URLs and inject refreshed authentication headers.
  • Natural language intent discovery for finding the right API action without browsing documentation.
  • Support for headless environment authentication using authorization codes.
  • Automated pagination and field mapping for pre-built actions to reduce token consumption.
  • Robust error handling with CLIENT_ACTION_REQUIRED states for interactive configuration.
