What is Todo Skill?

The Todo Skill is a powerful productivity engine designed for Openclaw Skills users who need more than a simple list. Built on a reliable SQLite backend, it enables developers and power users to organize their professional and personal lives through a structured hierarchy of projects and tasks.

This skill goes beyond basic CRUD operations by implementing a matrix of importance and urgency, allowing for Eisenhower Matrix-style prioritization. With support for sub-tasks, deadlines, and deep search capabilities, it serves as a central nervous system for managing complex workflows directly within the AI agent environment.

Todo Skill Use Cases

  • Organizing complex software development milestones into projects and nested sub-tasks.
  • Prioritizing daily operations using importance and urgency filters to focus on high-impact work.
  • Tracking deadlines for recurring reports or time-sensitive bug fixes.
  • Synchronizing personal and professional life by maintaining separate project silos within a single database.
  • Automated daily stand-up preparation by listing pending tasks via scheduled reminders.

How Todo Skill Works

  1. The user initializes a project container to silo related tasks.
  2. Tasks are added with optional metadata including importance (1-3), urgency (1-3), and due dates.
  3. Nested sub-tasks can be linked to parent IDs to break down large objectives.
  4. The system calculates an aggregate priority score, ensuring that parent tasks are surfaced based on the highest priority of their children.
  5. Users query the SQLite database via CLI commands to filter by status, time range, or keyword.
  6. Automated cron jobs can be configured to trigger status reports or reminders at specific intervals.

Todo Skill Setup

The Todo Skill stores its data in a local SQLite database. Ensure your environment is ready with the following steps:

# The database is automatically initialized at:
# ~/.openclaw/workspace/data/todo.db

# Create your first project
todo create-project Work

# Add a high-priority task
todo add Work "Complete Security Audit" -i 3 -u 3 -d 2026-05-15

Todo Skill Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill utilizes two primary tables within the todo.db file to maintain relational integrity:

Projects Table

Field Description
id Primary key for the project
name Unique project name (e.g., Work, Life)
created_at Timestamp of creation

Todos Table

Field Description
id Unique task identifier
project_id Foreign key linking to the Projects table
parent_id Self-referencing key for sub-task hierarchy
importance Numerical scale 1 (Low) to 3 (Critical)
urgency Numerical scale 1 (Low) to 3 (Immediate)
status Current state: pending or completed

Todo Skill Advanced Features

  • Intelligent Ranking: Automatic sorting logic that prioritizes Tasks based on the maximum priority found in their sub-task tree.
  • Visual Indicators: High-visibility emoji markers (🔴, 🟠, 🔥) for quick identification of critical items in terminal outputs.
  • Openclaw Skills Integration: Native support for Openclaw cron functions to send automated pending task digests.
  • Deep Search: Full-text search across both titles and detailed task notes.
  • Relational Integrity: Deleting a project or parent task automatically handles the cleanup of associated sub-tasks.
