What is ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools?

ephemeral-eng is an Openclaw Skills workflow for creating one self-contained HTML file that acts as both the engineering calculator and the final client deliverable. The user works in a browser with an input panel on the left while the right side renders a paginated, print-ready report that can be issued directly to PDF.

The skill standardizes the entire lifecycle: brand tokens, input schemas, pure JavaScript calculation logic, live SVG sketches, report pages, save/load JSON state, and a strict verification workflow. Every file ships unverified by default, preserving the draft watermark and verification note until the engineer completes VERIFICATION.md and confirms the numbers by hand.

ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools Use Cases

  • Building engineering calculators, calc tools, and report generators from a single HTML file
  • Producing load checks and evaluation letters for beams, columns, footings, headers, fasteners, anchors, wind, guardrails, and canopies
  • Revising existing single-file tools that already use a form-panel and report-page layout
  • Creating client-issued PDF reports that must show every input, assumption, and substituted calculation
  • Preloading jobs from architect notes, emails, or plan documents with traceable inputs
  • Saving portable project state for archived jobs and future revisions

How ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools Works

  1. Clarify the scope, governing code edition, design method, exposed inputs, and final deliverable type.
  2. State the formulas, assumptions, and code citations in plain English first, then wait for confirmation before coding.
  3. Start from the template and fill only the five slots: brand tokens, input schema, calc engine, live diagram, and report pages.
  4. Keep the calculation engine pure, validate inputs, and render substituted-number steps plus a live SVG diagram for quick review.
  5. Preserve versioning, footer stamps, watermark behavior, and JSON save/load portability so the file stays reusable across revisions.
  6. Deliver the HTML file, the formula and citation list, the exclusions and assumptions, and the explicit unverified-tool warning with a pointer to VERIFICATION.md.

ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools Setup

  1. Start from template/ephemeral-template.html or the user's latest working tool.
  2. Copy it into a versioned filename and keep the existing layout intact.
cp template/ephemeral-template.html V26150_Footing_Check_v1_0.html
  1. Edit only the five template slots; do not change the framework chrome.
  2. Keep the draft watermark checkbox ON and preserve the verification footer note.
  3. Leave the Save inputs / Load inputs JSON module in place so project state stays portable.
  4. Open the file in a browser and verify the result against VERIFICATION.md before use.
open V26150_Footing_Check_v1_0.html

ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill uses a fixed internal taxonomy so every Openclaw Skills tool stays portable, reviewable, and easy to diff.

Element Shape Purpose
FIRM JS object Brand tokens, identity, fonts, colors, version strings, and logo handling
f_* inputs Form controls Every editable input uses an f_camelCase id and is grouped into branded fieldsets
r Flat result object Derived values, pass/fail states, DCRs, and other computed outputs
d Data snapshot Input snapshot passed into drawDiagram(inp, r), buildReport(d, r), and wm(d)
images.logoData Nullable data URL Uploaded brand logo preserved through save/load
images.imgData Nullable data URL Optional appendix exhibit or dropped image preserved through save/load
_meta JSON object framework, tool, toolVersion, saved, and source metadata
.report-page HTML section US Letter report page with footer, watermark, and print pagination

Metadata taxonomy for exported state:

  • _meta.framework is always ephemeral-eng.
  • _meta.tool stores the tool name from FIRM.toolName.
  • _meta.toolVersion is the visible version used in the title, badge, and footer.
  • _meta.saved is an ISO-8601 timestamp.
  • _meta.source is user for manual saves and ai for pre-generated inputs.
  • inputs contains every f_* field exactly as exported.
  • images contains the saved logo and exhibit image payloads.

File organization and output conventions:

  • Main deliverable: {ProjectNo_}ToolName_vX_Y.html
  • Portable state file: JSON export from serializeInputs, exportJSON, and importJSON
  • Optional appendix: dropped images only if the user provides them
  • Report construction: buildReport(d, r) emits .report-page blocks, while numbers are formatted with num(x, dp) and user text is escaped with esc(s)

ephemeral-eng Input-to-Deliverable Engineering Tools Advanced Features

  • Single-file distribution with no build step, no dependencies, and no server
  • Live to-scale-ish SVG diagram with screen-only PASS/FAIL feedback
  • Print-ready US Letter report pages with branded footers and optional appendices
  • Save/load JSON state that preserves every f_* input and dropped image
  • AI pre-generation mode for loading traceable inputs from project notes or emails by setting _meta.source to ai
  • Explicit code citations, substituted-number calculations, and DCR / PASS-FAIL summary tables
  • Letter-generator variant for evaluation and compliance letters, with prose front matter and calculation exhibits
  • Safe revision workflow: change only what was requested, keep the layout stable, and bump the version on any functional change
  • Brand re-skinning by editing only the :root CSS variables and FIRM object, keeping the rest of the template untouched
