What is eToro API?

The eToro API skill provides a robust bridge between AI agents and the eToro social trading platform. By utilizing these Openclaw Skills, developers can automate the entire trading lifecycle, from searching for market instruments and analyzing historical price candles to executing complex market or limit orders. The skill supports both real and virtual environments, making it ideal for both production trading and risk-free strategy testing.

This integration allows for deep interaction with eToro's unique social features, including user feeds and popular investor data. Whether you are building an automated portfolio tracker or a sophisticated algorithmic trading bot, these Openclaw Skills provide the necessary endpoints for market data, trade execution, and account analytics with high reliability and precision.

eToro API Use Cases

  • Automating market buy and sell orders based on external signals or AI analysis.
  • Developing custom portfolio management dashboards with real-time PnL tracking.
  • Synchronizing watchlists across multiple trading accounts and platforms.
  • Extracting historical price history for backtesting algorithmic trading strategies.
  • Posting automated updates or signals to the eToro social community feed.

How eToro API Works

  1. The user authenticates by providing a Public API Key and a User Key generated from their eToro Trading Settings.
  2. The agent identifies target assets by querying the market-data search endpoint to retrieve specific instrument IDs.
  3. Trading requests are formatted with the required headers, including a unique x-request-id for every transaction.
  4. For execution, the skill maps user intent to either Demo or Real endpoints based on the active environment configuration.
  5. Portfolio and position data are retrieved to manage active trades, allowing for full or partial closing of positions.

eToro API Setup

To enable these Openclaw Skills, you must first obtain your API credentials from eToro.

  1. Log in to your eToro account and go to Settings > Trading.
  2. Click Create New Key and choose your Environment (Real or Virtual).
  3. Copy the generated Public API Key and User Key.
  4. Initialize the skill by providing these keys when prompted.

You can test the connection using a simple curl command:

curl -X GET "https://public-api.etoro.com/api/v1/watchlists" \
  -H "x-request-id: <UUID>" \
  -H "x-api-key: <PUBLIC_KEY>" \
  -H "x-user-key: <USER_KEY>"

eToro API Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data around several core entities and identifier types:

Entity Identifier Description
Instrument instrumentId Unique ID retrieved from the search or metadata endpoints.
Position positionId ID for specific active trades in your portfolio.
Order orderId ID returned after executing a market or limit order.
Social User userId (CID) Numeric ID used for feeds and public profile tracking.
Watchlist watchlistId Identifier for custom or default asset lists.

Note: Trading execution requests require PascalCase JSON body fields (e.g., InstrumentID, IsBuy), while feed interactions typically use lowerCamelCase.

eToro API Advanced Features

  • Environment Switching: Seamlessly toggle between Real and Virtual portfolios for safe testing of Openclaw Skills.
  • Partial Closes: Support for closing specific portions of a position using the UnitsToDeduct parameter.
  • Limit Orders: Capability to set Market-if-touched orders with specific rate triggers.
  • Social Integration: Programmatic access to read and create posts on eToro user and instrument feeds.
  • Historical Data: Retrieval of OHLC candle data with customizable intervals and direction.
