What is Export Reply?

Export Reply is a specialized tool designed for AI coding agents that allows users to persist their chat history or specific agent responses directly to their local filesystem. It bridges the gap between ephemeral AI chat sessions and long-term documentation by supporting a variety of professional formats including Markdown, Plain Text, HTML, PDF, and DOCX.

By integrating this into your Openclaw Skills collection, you gain the ability to generate clean, readable records of technical discussions or code snippets with a single command. The skill is particularly adept at handling bilingual environments, offering a unique summary mode that condenses conversations into structured Chinese and English sections, making it ideal for international teams and developers.

Export Reply Use Cases

  • Archiving complex technical discussions for future reference or knowledge bases.
  • Generating bilingual summaries of long AI conversations for team sharing.
  • Exporting code snippets and explanations directly into project documentation folders.
  • Creating professional PDF or Word reports from AI-generated content for stakeholders.

How Export Reply Works

  1. The user triggers the export process using keywords like save, export, or their Chinese equivalents.
  2. The skill immediately checks for existing user preferences to facilitate a one-tap export experience.
  3. If no preferences are found or the user chooses to change them, the agent prompts for content scope, mode, and desired format in a single unified message.
  4. The conversation data is passed to a Python-based processing script which applies formatting or summarization logic.
  5. The final document is rendered and saved to the user's local directory (defaulting to the Desktop).
  6. The skill saves the configuration as a persistent preference for future use.

Export Reply Setup

To add this capability to your agent, install it via the hub:

clawhub install export-reply

While basic formats work out of the box with python3, you can unlock advanced PDF and DOCX rendering by installing these optional dependencies:

pip3 install fpdf2 python-docx markdown

Export Reply Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Export Reply skill manages configuration and temporary data as follows:

Component Details
Preferences Configuration is stored in ~/.export_reply_prefs.json (includes scope, mode, and path).
Temporary Files Uses /tmp/export_raw.md and /tmp/export_staged.md during the rendering lifecycle.
Output Formats Supports .md, .txt, .html, .pdf, and .docx extensions.
Metadata Tracks export timestamps and file sizes for user confirmation.

Export Reply Advanced Features

  • Condensed Bilingual Summary: Automatically generates headers and prose in both Chinese and English while preserving core code blocks.
  • Preference Memory: Recalls your last used scope, mode, format, and path to allow for rapid, repeat exports.
  • Intelligent PDF Rendering: Automatically attempts to use Chrome headless for high-quality PDF generation, falling back to local Python libraries if necessary.
  • Parameter Inference: Inferred defaults allow the skill to extract format and scope directly from natural language commands like save everything as Word.
