What is FadNote?

FadNote is a specialized utility designed for Openclaw Skills that enables the creation of secure, shareable, and self-destructing notes. By leveraging client-side AES-256-GCM encryption with PBKDF2, it ensures that sensitive information like API keys, passwords, or credentials never reaches the server in plaintext. The decryption key is stored in the URL fragment, maintaining a zero-knowledge architecture where only the recipient with the full link can access the content.

This skill streamlines the process of handling confidential data within an AI-assisted development environment. Instead of pasting secrets into chat logs or insecure channels, users can quickly generate a one-time-read link that automatically expires. It bridges the gap between productivity and high-standard security protocols, making it a vital addition to any professional Openclaw Skills toolkit.

FadNote Use Cases

  • Securely sharing API keys or environment secrets with team members.
  • Sending one-time-use login credentials to clients or colleagues.
  • Distributing sensitive meeting locations or private contact details.
  • Temporary storage of encrypted text that needs to self-destruct after viewing.
  • Automating secure handoffs within multi-agent workflows.

How FadNote Works

  1. The user provides sensitive content to the AI agent or via the CLI interface.
  2. FadNote performs client-side encryption using AES-256-GCM, ensuring the server only receives an encrypted blob.
  3. The encrypted data is uploaded to the FadNote server with a defined Time-To-Live (TTL).
  4. The skill generates a unique URL containing the decryption key in the fragment identifier (#).
  5. Once the recipient opens the link, the server serves the encrypted blob and immediately deletes it from storage.
  6. The recipient browser decrypts the content locally using the key extracted from the URL fragment.

FadNote Setup

To integrate this into your library of Openclaw Skills, follow these steps:

Install via ClawHub:

claw install fadnote

Or install manually by cloning the repository:

git clone https://github.com/easyFloyd/fadnote.git
ln -s $(pwd)/fadnote/openclaw-skill/scripts/fadnote.js ~/.claw/bin/fadnote

Ensure Node.js 18+ is installed. You can set your preferred endpoint using an environment variable:

export FADNOTE_URL=https://fadnote.com

FadNote Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill handles data through a secure transition layer. Metadata and content are organized as follows:

Field Description
noteId Unique identifier for the encrypted blob on the server.
expiresIn Duration in seconds until the note is automatically deleted.
decryptionUrl The full URL containing the host, noteId, and the local decryption key.

When using the --json flag, the output follows this structure:

  • noteId: String (Remote reference)
  • expiresIn: Number (Seconds remaining)
  • decryptionUrl: String (The shareable link with hash key)

FadNote Advanced Features

  • Custom TTL: Set specific expiration times using the --ttl flag for short-lived or long-lived secrets.
  • JSON Output: Programmatic interface via --json for seamless integration into other scripts or Openclaw Skills.
  • Multi-platform Stdin Support: Accepts input from pipes, cat, pbpaste (macOS), or xclip (Linux) for versatile CLI workflows.
  • Zero-Knowledge Architecture: No plaintext data or decryption keys are ever stored on or transmitted to the central server.
  • Automatic Email Integration: When an email skill is active, FadNote can automatically route secure links to specific recipients upon request.
