Financial Statement Adjustment is an Openclaw Skills workflow for making targeted changes to existing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements without rebuilding the workbook. It is designed to preserve the original formatting, design, formulas, and unrelated sheets while updating only the necessary cells.
The skill guides the agent to locate accounts by their labels, adjust linked values such as retained earnings and net income, and verify that accounting relationships balance before delivery. It also emphasizes backing up the original file and warns that statements used externally must be supported by genuine accounting documentation.
.xls financial workbooks, including complex layouts with merged cells, borders, and formulas..xlsx workbooks across platforms while preserving formulas and styles..xlsx files where appropriate. This skill does not specify a package-manager command or a fixed installation path. Add its SKILL.md to the skills directory used by your Openclaw Skills-compatible agent, following that agent’s installation instructions. The workflow requires an input workbook and a supported spreadsheet-processing environment.
For .xls files with complex formatting, merged cells, or formulas, use Windows with Microsoft Excel and pywin32:
python -m pip install pywin32
For .xlsx workbooks, use openpyxl:
python -m pip install openpyxl
For locating data in legacy .xls files, xlrd can be used as a read-only scanning tool; perform edits with Excel COM or by converting the workbook for a suitable writing workflow:
python -m pip install xlrd
Before editing, make a copy of the original workbook. With openpyxl, load formulas using the default data_only=False behavior so formula cells are not replaced with cached values. Note that openpyxl does not calculate formulas; use a spreadsheet engine for recalculation when needed.
The skill works with existing spreadsheet workbooks rather than defining a separate database or generating a custom metadata format. It preserves the source workbook and saves an adjusted copy.
| Data area | Typical contents | Handling |
|---|---|---|
| Balance sheet | Assets, liabilities, equity, retained earnings, and totals | Locate accounts by label; update only requested cells and linked totals. |
| Income statement | Revenue, operating profit, total profit, income tax, and net income | Update linked figures when cumulative profit or retained earnings changes. |
| Cash flow statement | Cash receipts, payments, and cash flow totals | Usually leave unchanged when an adjustment does not represent an actual cash transaction. |
| Workbook structure | Sheets, formatting, formulas, merged cells, borders, and layout | Preserve existing structure and unrelated content; avoid rebuilding the workbook. |
| Output | Adjusted workbook copy | Keep the original as a backup and validate the saved copy before delivery. |
Core checks include assets equaling liabilities plus equity, the change in retained earnings matching cumulative profit, and net income equaling total profit less income tax. The workflow uses a tolerance of less than 0.01 in its example assertions. In older two-sided layouts, account labels and values may occupy different columns; scan labels before selecting cells.
