What is FireHydrant?

FireHydrant is a premier incident management platform designed to help SRE and DevOps teams resolve service interruptions with speed and precision. By integrating this tool into Openclaw Skills, developers can programmatically manage incidents, severity levels, and retro-action items without leaving their terminal or agent environment.

This skill leverages the Membrane infrastructure to provide a secure, abstraction-layered interface to the FireHydrant API. It eliminates the friction of manual credential handling by utilizing a centralized connection manager, allowing AI agents and developers to focus on resolving technical debt and infrastructure issues rather than API plumbing.

FireHydrant Use Cases

  • Automating the creation of incident records during high-priority system alerts.
  • Retrieving active runbooks and assigning tasks to on-call engineers automatically.
  • Synchronizing incident artifacts and severity levels across team communication tools.
  • Querying user and organization data to streamline incident role assignments.
  • Performing bulk updates to incident statuses using natural language intent via Openclaw Skills.

How FireHydrant Works

  1. The user installs the Membrane CLI and authenticates their environment using a specific agent type such as openclaw.
  2. A secure connection to the FireHydrant API is established using a domain-normalized connection process.
  3. Membrane handles the OAuth or API key handshake, storing secrets server-side to ensure local security.
  4. The agent searches for high-level actions (e.g., creating an incident) using natural language intent discovery.
  5. Commands are executed via the CLI, with Membrane automatically injecting the required authentication headers and handling pagination or credential refresh.

FireHydrant Setup

First, install the global CLI to manage your Openclaw Skills:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authenticate your agent (replace <agentType> with openclaw):

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Establish a connection to your FireHydrant instance:

membrane connection ensure "https://firehydrant.io" --json

If the connection state is BUILDING, poll for readiness:

npx @membranehq/cli connection get <id> --wait --json

FireHydrant Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data around the core FireHydrant entities. All data returned via Openclaw Skills is structured as JSON for easy consumption by AI agents.

Entity Description
Incidents Core records containing status, severity, and timestamps.
Runbooks Automated workflows and checklists for specific incident types.
Tasks Actionable items assigned to users within an active incident.
Artifacts Linked resources, logs, or evidence related to an incident.
Metadata Versioning and author info handled by the Openclaw Skills manifest.

FireHydrant Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Action Discovery: Use the --intent flag to find specific FireHydrant capabilities without reading documentation.
  • Proxy Request Mode: Send direct, authenticated REST calls to any FireHydrant endpoint using membrane request for edge cases not covered by pre-built actions.
  • Multi-Agent Support: Adjust tooling behavior by specifying client types like openclaw, codex, or windsurf during login.
  • Automated Long-Polling: Use the --wait flag to pause execution until asynchronous connection processes are fully READY.
