What is flomo-sync?

flomo-sync is a specialized tool that allows users to bridge the gap between flomo's cloud-based micro-notes and their local file system. By leveraging the flomo API, it extracts memos and transforms them into structured Markdown documents, ensuring your personal data remains accessible and searchable offline. As a key component of Openclaw Skills, this utility is essential for developers and knowledge workers who prioritize data sovereignty and local-first note-taking workflows.

The tool is built to handle complex synchronization tasks, including the automatic downloading of images and attachments, preservation of metadata through YAML frontmatter, and efficient batch processing. It serves as an ideal solution for those looking to integrate flomo content into other local tools like Obsidian, Logseq, or simple file-based archives.

flomo-sync Use Cases

  • Backing up your entire flomo history to a secure local directory.
  • Synchronizing new memos to a local Markdown-based knowledge management system.
  • Exporting flomo notes with images and attachments for offline viewing.
  • Automating the incremental update of local archives without re-downloading existing content.
  • Preparing flomo data for migration to other personal knowledge management platforms supported by Openclaw Skills.

How flomo-sync Works

  1. The script initializes by reading the flomo access token from a secure local configuration file.
  2. It checks for a local lock file to determine the timestamp of the last successful synchronization.
  3. Using the flomo API, it fetches memos updated since the last sync or a specified date.
  4. Each memo's HTML content is converted into clean Markdown format using specialized libraries.
  5. If enabled, the tool downloads associated attachments (images, audio) and organizes them into date-structured subfolders.
  6. Individual Markdown files are generated for every memo, incorporating metadata like tags and timestamps into the file header.

flomo-sync Setup

First, ensure you have Python 3.10+ installed and install the required dependencies:

pip install requests markdownify

Next, configure your authentication. Create a .flomo.config file in your project's root directory and add your token:

token=your_access_token_here

To run the synchronization, use the following command with an absolute path for the output directory:

python scripts/flomo-sync.py --dir /absolute/path/to/your/output

flomo-sync Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data into a structured local hierarchy to ensure compatibility with most Markdown editors. Metadata is stored within the Markdown file using YAML frontmatter.

Component Description
File Format Standard Markdown (.md) with YAML frontmatter
Metadata Includes slug, created_at, updated_at, tags, and source
Attachment Path images/YYYY/MM/DD/ relative to the output directory
Sync State .flomo.lock records the last updated timestamp for incremental sync
Filename Schema {Date}_{Tag}_{Snippet}_{Slug}.md

flomo-sync Advanced Features

  • Incremental Sync: Automatically tracks the last update time to only fetch new content, making it a highly efficient part of the Openclaw Skills suite.
  • Flexible Filtering: Supports the --after parameter to synchronize memos from a specific historical date.
  • Attachment Control: Use the --no-download flag to keep remote URLs if local storage space is a concern.
  • Automated Tagging: Extracts flomo tags and incorporates them directly into the Markdown body and metadata.
  • Multi-Agent Compatibility: Designed to work seamlessly within AI-driven coding environments and automated backup pipelines.
