What is Google Workspace Skill?

The Google Workspace skill is a powerful extension for Openclaw Skills that enables direct interaction with Google's core productivity suite. It allows developers and AI agents to send emails, manage schedules, read and write to spreadsheets, and modify documents without leaving the terminal or agent environment.

Built to facilitate complex automation, this skill handles the heavy lifting of OAuth 2.0 authentication and API communication. By integrating these tools, users can create sophisticated workflows that bridge the gap between raw data and professional communication tools, all while maintaining the security and flexibility provided by Openclaw Skills.

Google Workspace Skill Use Cases

  • Automating recurring email reports and unread message processing via Gmail.
  • Programmatically scheduling team meetings and managing event deletions in Google Calendar.
  • Synchronizing CRM data or contact lists using the People API.
  • Performing bulk data entry, log appending, and report generation in Google Sheets.
  • Generating documents from templates and performing text replacement in Google Docs.
  • Managing cloud storage workflows including file uploads and downloads on Google Drive.

How Google Workspace Skill Works

  1. The user initiates the openclaw-agent, which is a mandatory prerequisite for all Openclaw Skills involving Google APIs.
  2. Authentication is performed via a local Python helper that manages OAuth 2.0 flows and stores access tokens securely in a pickle file.
  3. The skill utilizes the Google API Python Client to construct requests for specific services like Gmail (v1) or Sheets (v4).
  4. Commands are executed as Python snippets that interface with the Google Cloud Project credentials.
  5. The agent processes the API responses, such as message IDs or spreadsheet ranges, to continue the automation lifecycle.

Google Workspace Skill Setup

Prerequisites

Ensure the openclaw-agent is running on your system. This is critical for Openclaw Skills functionality.

1. Install Dependencies

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth-httplib2 google-auth-oauthlib

2. Configure Google Cloud

  • Create a project in the Google Cloud Console.
  • Enable the following APIs: Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and People API.
  • Create OAuth 2.0 Desktop credentials and download them as credentials.json to your working directory.

3. Initialize Authentication

Run your authentication helper script to open the browser and authorize the application. This will generate the token.pickle file required for future operations.

Google Workspace Skill Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes data across several Google services using specific identifiers and metadata structures:

Service Primary Identifier Data Format
Gmail Message ID / Thread ID MIME/Base64 Encoded Body
Calendar Event ID ISO 8601 Datetime
Sheets Spreadsheet ID A1 Notation (e.g., Sheet1!A1:B10)
Docs Document ID Structural Element Index
Drive File ID Binary Stream / Multipart Upload
Contacts Resource Name PersonFields (JSON)

Google Workspace Skill Advanced Features

  • Multi-service integration allowing data to flow from Gmail into Sheets or Docs automatically.
  • Support for advanced Gmail search queries like is:unread or has:attachment within Openclaw Skills workflows.
  • Batch update requests for Google Docs to handle complex document manipulation in a single call.
  • Customizable OAuth scopes to ensure the principle of least privilege for different automation tasks.
  • Robust error handling and token refresh logic for long-term deployment.
