What is Inspector?

The Inspector skill enables AI agents to interface directly with Inspector, a premier application performance monitoring (APM) tool designed for real-time error detection and bottleneck identification. By leveraging the Membrane ecosystem, this skill simplifies complex authentication and credential management, allowing developers and DevOps teams to focus on operational logic rather than security plumbing.

Built to enhance the capabilities of Openclaw Skills, this integration provides a bridge to professional-grade monitoring. It allows for the execution of predefined actions or raw API proxy requests, ensuring that your AI coding agent has full visibility into application health and the power to automate responses to performance issues.

Inspector Use Cases

  • Automatically detecting and retrieving application error logs during a debugging session.
  • Monitoring real-time performance bottlenecks to suggest infrastructure optimizations.
  • Automating the management of findings, templates, and user records within the Inspector dashboard.
  • Orchestrating multi-step workflows that trigger based on specific application performance triggers.

How Inspector Works

  1. Authentication is established using the Membrane CLI, which securely handles OAuth flows and token refreshing.
  2. The skill identifies the correct Inspector connector and establishes a unique connection ID for the workspace.
  3. The AI agent searches for specific functional actions (e.g., listing findings or updating cases) based on user intent.
  4. Actions are executed via the Membrane runtime, passing necessary JSON parameters to the Inspector API.
  5. For custom requirements, the agent uses the Membrane proxy to send direct HTTP requests with managed authentication headers.

Inspector Setup

First, install the Membrane CLI globally to enable the Openclaw Skills environment to communicate with the provider:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli

Log in to your tenant to authorize the environment:

membrane login --tenant

Search for and connect the Inspector element:

# Search for the connector ID
membrane search inspector --elementType=connector --json

# Create the connection
membrane connect --connectorId=CONNECTOR_ID --json

Inspector Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill interacts with several core data objects within the Inspector ecosystem. Data is typically exchanged in JSON format.

Object Description
Case Top-level container for related application issues.
Finding Specific instances of errors or performance anomalies.
Template Predefined structures for reporting and notifications.
User Identity data for team members managing the APM environment.
Integration Metadata regarding third-party service connections.

Inspector Advanced Features

  • Intent-based discovery: Use natural language intents to find the most efficient pre-built actions, reducing token consumption.
  • Secure API Proxying: Send raw GET, POST, or PATCH requests to any Inspector endpoint while Membrane handles signature and header injection.
  • Automated Credential Lifecycle: Zero-touch token management ensures that long-running automated workflows never fail due to expired sessions.
  • Headless Support: Full compatibility with remote or CI/CD environments through CLI-based authentication completion.
