What is Mac Camera Diary?

Mac Camera Diary is a specialized tool within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem designed to enhance professional focus and self-improvement on macOS. By leveraging the system camera and advanced AI vision models, the skill periodically captures snapshots of your workspace during work hours. These images are analyzed by AI to provide positive reinforcement and motivational feedback, which is then compiled into a structured daily log. This skill is ideal for developers and remote workers looking to automate their daily journaling and maintain a record of their workday activities without manual effort.

Mac Camera Diary Use Cases

  • Tracking daily work habits and focus through periodic automated snapshots.
  • Receiving AI-driven motivational feedback during intense coding or design sessions.
  • Generating automated daily work summaries for personal reflection or team reporting.
  • Maintaining a long-term text-based archive of professional activity while managing storage automatically.

How Mac Camera Diary Works

  1. The system triggers the snap_and_praise.sh script at configurable intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes) during your defined working hours.
  2. The Mac camera captures a snapshot which is then processed by a vision-capable AI model specified in your Openclaw Skills configuration.
  3. The AI generates a praise-based analysis of the photo, appending the text to a daily log.md file.
  4. At the scheduled summary time, the nightly_summary.sh script synthesizes the day's logs into a concise summary and sends a notification via Feishu.
  5. The cleanup.sh script runs at midnight to delete temporary photos based on your retention policy while preserving the text-based diaries.

Mac Camera Diary Setup

First, install the necessary camera utility using Homebrew:

brew install imagesnap

Next, configure your environment by editing the scripts/config.sh file. Key variables include:

WORK_START="09:30"
WORK_END="22:00"
SNAP_INTERVAL=15
MODEL="claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022"
BASE_URL="https://api.openai.com/v1"

Finally, use imagesnap -l to identify your preferred camera device if using an external webcam.

Mac Camera Diary Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill maintains a structured directory at ~/openclaw-camera-diary/ to organize logs and media:

File Path Description Retention Policy
YYYY-MM-DD/HH-MM.jpg Workday snapshots Configurable (Default: 0 days)
YYYY-MM-DD/log.md AI analysis per snapshot Permanent
summary.md Aggregated daily summaries Permanent

All metadata and logs are stored in Markdown format for easy portability and reading.

Mac Camera Diary Advanced Features

  • Smart scheduling that automatically skips lunch breaks and non-working days to ensure privacy.
  • Multi-platform notifications with built-in support for Feishu (Lark) private and group messages.
  • Configurable AI parameters including model selection, API endpoints, and response word limits.
  • Automated storage optimization that purges high-resolution images while keeping lightweight text records.
