What is PaperPod?

PaperPod is a powerful, isolated runtime environment specifically engineered for AI agents to perform complex tasks safely. It provides a secure sandbox where agents can execute arbitrary code in Python, JavaScript, or Shell, and perform advanced browser automation using Playwright. By integrating this into your Openclaw Skills collection, you gain access to a full Linux environment with over 50 pre-installed tools, including ffmpeg for video processing and sqlite3 for data management.

The platform is designed for zero-friction integration, requiring no complex SDKs or API keys. It offers a billing model based on per-second compute usage, ensuring cost-efficiency for developers. With features like live preview URLs and persistent agent memory, PaperPod serves as a robust foundation for building autonomous agents that need to interact with the web, process media, or maintain state across multiple execution cycles.

PaperPod Use Cases

  • Safe execution of untrusted code snippets within isolated containers.
  • Comprehensive browser automation including screenshots, scraping, and PDF generation.
  • Hosting temporary development servers with stable, public-facing preview URLs.
  • Media processing tasks using pre-installed libraries like ffmpeg and ImageMagick.
  • Maintaining persistent agent state and data across ephemeral sandbox resets.

How PaperPod Works

  1. Authentication is initiated via email to receive a secure session token that lasts for 15 days.
  2. The user interacts with the sandbox using either the dedicated PaperPod CLI or standard HTTP POST requests.
  3. Commands are executed within a private, isolated Linux container where the default working directory is /workspace.
  4. Background processes, such as web servers, can be started and exposed to the public internet via stable URLs.
  5. Long-term data is saved to the Agent Memory storage to persist beyond the lifecycle of the ephemeral sandbox.

PaperPod Setup

To start using this tool within your Openclaw Skills workflow, follow these steps:

# Install the PaperPod CLI globally
npm install -g @paperpod/cli

# Request a login token via email
curl -X POST https://paperpod.dev/login -d '{"email":"[email protected]"}'

# Authenticate the CLI using your session token
ppod login pp_sess_your_token_here

PaperPod Data Schema & Taxonomy

PaperPod organizes data between ephemeral workspace storage and persistent agent memory:

Data Type Path/Location Description
Ephemeral Storage /workspace The primary directory for code execution; reset when the sandbox closes.
Persistent Memory /memory/* A 10MB R2-backed storage area for data that must survive resets.
Ports 8080, 5000, 4000 Available ports for binding servers (3000-3010 are reserved).
Preview URLs https://{port}-{id}.paperpod.work Stable URLs generated when exposing internal ports.

PaperPod Advanced Features

  • Support for reusable browser sessions via browser:acquire to optimize multi-step automation.
  • Integrated AI capabilities for text generation, embeddings, and image creation without external API keys.
  • Detailed debugging for browser tasks using Playwright trace exports.
  • Support for git and GitHub CLI (gh) pre-installed for version control operations.
  • WebSocket connectivity for high-performance programmatic integrations and custom application backends.
