What is Personal Notes?

The Personal Notes skill acts as a private digital notebook within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It is specifically designed to handle the friction of daily logging, journaling, and fleeting thought capture by automating the organization and formatting of your personal entries. It provides a neutral, judgment-free space for users to record reflections, daily logs, and random ideas without needing to manage files manually.

By leveraging the power of Openclaw Skills, this tool ensures that every entry is meticulously timestamped and stored in a standardized Markdown format. It serves not just as a recording device, but as a retrieval system that allows you to query your past thoughts and maintain a consistent thread of personal growth and historical record-keeping.

Personal Notes Use Cases

  • Capturing spontaneous thoughts or brain dumps during the workday.
  • Maintaining a structured daily diary or mood tracker with automatic timestamps.
  • Facilitating deep self-reflection through AI-guided questioning and prompts.
  • Searching through months of historical logs to find specific insights or memories.
  • Organizing personal knowledge using a consistent tagging system for quick filtering.

How Personal Notes Works

  1. The agent detects intent when the user enters the Personal chat Notes topic or uses trigger words like note, journal, or record.
  2. It initializes the session by reading the existing history from the knowledge/personal/notes.md file to maintain context.
  3. User input is captured and transcribed almost verbatim to preserve the original meaning and tone of the thought.
  4. The agent formats the content into a standardized Markdown block including a [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM] header.
  5. New entries are appended to the permanent storage file, ensuring the local knowledge base is updated in real-time.

Personal Notes Setup

To activate this skill within your Openclaw Skills environment, ensure the designated storage path exists in your project directory.

mkdir -p knowledge/personal
touch knowledge/personal/notes.md

No further configuration is required; the agent will automatically begin routing note-related queries to this file once the directory structure is present.

Personal Notes Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill maintains a flat-file database using Markdown for maximum portability and human readability. Data is organized as follows:

Component Format Description
Storage Path knowledge/personal/notes.md The primary append-only Markdown file.
Entry Header ### [YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM] Заметка ISO-style timestamp for chronological sorting.
Content Text Literal or near-verbatim transcription of user thoughts.
Metadata #tag Optional hashtags at the end of entries for categorization.

Personal Notes Advanced Features

  • Contextual Continuity: Automatically reads the most recent notes before responding to provide relevant follow-up questions.
  • Intelligent Search: Query the agent to find specific entries by date range (day/week/month) or by keyword content.
  • Neutral Transcription: A strict rule-set prevents the AI from over-analyzing or judging entries unless specifically asked for reflection.
  • Tagging System: Support for custom hashtags like #reflection or #important to build a structured personal knowledge graph.
