What is Remoting?

The Remoting skill allows developers to bridge the gap between a local CLI environment and a web interface. By leveraging Openclaw Skills and the remotego engine, this tool creates a secure tunnel from your local machine to a public URL via localhost.run. This enables seamless remote viewing and real-time interaction with your Claude Code terminal from any browser, making it an essential utility for pair programming, remote debugging, and technical demonstrations.

Built for the modern developer workflow, it transforms a standard terminal session into a collaborative web experience. Whether you are seeking a second opinion on a piece of code or presenting your progress to a stakeholder, this skill provides the infrastructure to share your active Claude environment instantly without complex network configurations.

Remoting Use Cases

  • Collaborating on code with remote teammates who need to see real-time Claude output.
  • Mirroring a terminal session to a browser for better visibility on secondary monitors or mobile devices.
  • Providing remote access to a Claude session for troubleshooting or peer review.
  • Demonstrating AI-driven development workflows during live presentations or webinars.

How Remoting Works

  1. The user initiates the skill using the remotego command within the local terminal environment.
  2. A local web server is spawned (typically on port 7681) to capture and broadcast terminal output.
  3. An SSH-based tunnel is established via localhost.run, generating a unique public URL.
  4. A random UUID session token is generated to ensure that only users with the specific link can view the stream.
  5. The browser-based terminal client connects to the stream, providing a high-fidelity, interactive replica of the Claude Code session.

Remoting Setup

To get started with this Openclaw Skills integration, ensure you have Node.js installed on your system.

Install the package globally:

npm install -g @remotego/remotego

Launch the mirroring session:

remotego claude

Alternatively, run it instantly without a global installation:

npx @remotego/remotego claude

Remoting Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill manages session data and connectivity parameters as follows:

Data Point Description
Session UUID A unique identifier generated per session to secure the web connection.
Output Cache Buffers terminal history so new viewers can see the full context of the session.
Tunnel Domain Defaults to localhost.run but can be customized via the --domain flag.
Port Config Local hosting defaults to port 7681 unless specified via --port.

Remoting Advanced Features

  • Custom Tunnel Support: Use the --domain flag to specify your own localhost.run subdomain.
  • Directory Control: Set a specific working directory using the --cwd flag for targeted project sessions.
  • Session History Persistence: All terminal output is cached, ensuring that late-joining participants see the entire history of the session.
  • Multi-User Interaction: The web terminal is not just a broadcast; it allows remote users to type and interact with the session directly.
