What is Approval Group Directory?

Approval Group Directory is an Openclaw Skills workflow that takes a review_request, determines its reviewer_group, and processes that result into a recorded_group business artifact. Its single executable runner combines identification and downstream record handling in one workflow.

By default, the skill writes the business record beneath the explicitly supplied output directory and contacts no external service. Configure SMTP or an HTTP delivery endpoint to enable real delivery, then inspect the returned receipt for the outcome.

Approval Group Directory Use Cases

  • Route an incoming review request to its identified reviewer group.
  • Create or update a local business record for a request without contacting external services.
  • Send a configured message through SMTP as part of the workflow.
  • Register or submit a request record through a configured HTTP endpoint.
  • Test the complete two-stage workflow using the bundled example input and expected output.

How Approval Group Directory Works

  1. Read and validate the upstream review_request input.
  2. Run the identification stage to compute the reviewer_group result.
  3. Pass the identification result to the downstream operation and compute recorded_group.
  4. Create or update the review_request_record artifact beneath the supplied --output-dir.
  5. If delivery is configured, perform the declared external action and return a delivery receipt with an outcome such as sent, delivered, failed, or unconfigured.
  6. Report delivery errors with a nonzero exit status. With no delivery configuration, retain the record locally and make no external service calls.

Approval Group Directory Setup

Run the workflow with Python, providing an input JSON file and an explicit output directory:

python scripts/run.py --input examples/request.json --output-dir ./workspace

To supply delivery settings from a file, add --delivery-config delivery.json:

python scripts/run.py --input examples/request.json --output-dir ./workspace --delivery-config delivery.json

For SMTP message delivery, configure CLAWHUB_SMTP_HOST and optionally CLAWHUB_SMTP_PORT, CLAWHUB_MAIL_FROM, CLAWHUB_SMTP_USERNAME, and CLAWHUB_SMTP_PASSWORD. Alternatively, provide an SMTP configuration object with smtp_host, smtp_port, and from_addr in the delivery config.

For HTTP registration or submission, configure CLAWHUB_DELIVERY_ENDPOINT and optionally CLAWHUB_DELIVERY_API_KEY, or pass a delivery config containing an endpoint object. Delivery targets, credentials, and recipients are supplied explicitly at runtime. Without them, the skill operates locally only.

Approval Group Directory Data Schema & Taxonomy

The workflow consumes a JSON upstream request and produces a two-stage result. examples/expected.json documents the output shape; runtime paths and receipt identifiers are excluded from that example.

Data or file Purpose
examples/request.json Bundled upstream review_request input.
reviewer_group Result computed by the identification stage.
recorded_group Business result computed by the downstream operation.
review_request_record Local business artifact created or updated under --output-dir.
delivery Receipt describing the real delivery outcome when a target is configured.
examples/expected.json Example of the complete two-stage output shape.
source-map.json Provenance information for both extracted stages.

Implementation is organized into scripts/upstream/ for identification (operation.py, validation.py, and config.json), scripts/downstream/ for delivery and its deliver_effect, and scripts/run.py for the complete workflow.

Approval Group Directory Advanced Features

  • Combines upstream identification and downstream business processing in a single executable skill.
  • Supports optional SMTP message delivery and HTTP registration or submission.
  • Keeps external delivery disabled by default; without explicit configuration, it writes locally and contacts no external service.
  • Returns a delivery receipt with the real outcome when a delivery target is configured.
  • Reports delivery errors using a nonzero process exit status.
  • Includes an expected-output example and a source map documenting the two-stage workflow.
