What is Robin?

Robin acts as a digital brain for your AI assistant, enabling it to curate a personal commonplace book. By leveraging Openclaw Skills, Robin transforms raw user input into a structured knowledge base stored in topic-organized Markdown files. It handles everything from simple text notes to image and video references, ensuring that important information is never lost and always accessible for future review. This skill is designed for technical users who want to build a long-term, portable knowledge repository that remains human-readable while being machine-manageable.

Robin Use Cases

  • Filing insightful quotes and excerpts from books or articles for long-term retention.
  • Organizing project-specific research and media references into dedicated topic files.
  • Setting up a spaced-repetition style review system for learning new concepts.
  • Creating a searchable repository of personal wisdom and technical notes via Openclaw Skills.

How Robin Works

  1. The user provides content (text, image path, or video URL) to the AI agent.
  2. The agent identifies the correct topic or creates a new one using the Openclaw Skills framework.
  3. Robin performs a deterministic duplicate check to ensure high-quality data storage and avoid redundancy.
  4. The entry is persisted into a topic-specific Markdown file with metadata frontmatter and a clean body separator.
  5. Content is later resurfaced through scheduled recall or active review sessions based on configurable cooldowns and ratings.

Robin Setup

To integrate Robin into your environment, ensure you have Python 3.11+ and local filesystem access. Follow these steps:

  1. Define your state directory (e.g., ~/.openclaw/workspace/data/robin/).
  2. Initialize the directory structure and a robin-config.json file.
  3. Verify the installation with the diagnostic doctor script:
python3 scripts/doctor.py --state-dir <state-dir> --json
  1. For full integration testing, run the repository-local selftest script:
python3 scripts/selftest.py

Robin Data Schema & Taxonomy

Robin organizes data within a state directory using the following structure to maintain compatibility with Openclaw Skills standards:

Path Description
topics/ Contains topic-specific Markdown files (e.g., quotes.md).
media/ Stores copied image assets organized by topic slug.
robin-config.json Global configuration for review cooldowns and item limits.
robin-review-index.json Stores review metadata like ratings and surfacing frequency.

Each Markdown entry uses *** as a separator and includes YAML-like frontmatter (ID, date, type, description) followed by a blank line and the entry body.

Robin Advanced Features

  • Active review mode with 1-5 star rating systems to prioritize high-value content during recall.
  • Multi-filter search capabilities combining topics and tags for precise retrieval across the entire library.
  • Deterministic duplicate rejection based on source URL or content normalization to prevent cluttering the knowledge base.
  • Robust library diagnostics and self-testing scripts to ensure data integrity and host compatibility within Openclaw Skills.
