What is Section?

The Section skill for Openclaw Skills enables developers and AI agents to interact seamlessly with Section data, records, and automated workflows. By leveraging the Membrane framework, this skill abstracts the complexities of authentication and credential refreshing, allowing users to focus entirely on integration logic rather than infrastructure plumbing.

Built for high-performance environments, this skill provides a standardized interface for executing actions and proxying requests directly to the Section API. It ensures secure communication by handling all secrets server-side, reducing token consumption and improving the reliability of agent-led operations.

Section Use Cases

  • Automating data synchronization between Section and external databases.
  • Managing records and resource deployment through AI-driven natural language commands.
  • Scaling DevOps workflows by integrating Section lifecycle management into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Performing authenticated proxy requests to Section API endpoints without local credential storage.

How Section Works

  1. Installation: The user installs the Membrane CLI to provide the underlying communication layer.
  2. Authentication: The agent initiates a login for Openclaw Skills, handling either interactive browser-based auth or headless code entry.
  3. Connection Establishment: A connection to the Section domain is ensured, which automatically builds the necessary connector and handles OAuth/API key handshakes.
  4. Action Discovery: The agent searches for specific capabilities using natural language intent to find pre-built actions with defined schemas.
  5. Execution: The skill runs the selected action or proxies a direct HTTP request, automatically injecting the required authentication headers and handling responses.

Section Setup

First, install the global CLI:

npm install -g @membranehq/cli@latest

Authenticate the agent (replace <agentType> with openclaw):

membrane login --tenant --clientName=openclaw

Create a connection to the Section service:

membrane connection ensure "https://section.io" --json

Section Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill utilizes a structured schema for discovering and executing operations. Data is organized as follows:

Component Description
Connection ID A unique identifier for the authenticated link to the Section instance.
Action Object Contains id, name, description, inputSchema, and outputSchema.
Input Schema Defines the JSON parameters required for a specific Section task.
Output Schema Provides the structure of the data returned by Section after an action execution.
Proxy Response Standard HTTP response data when using raw endpoint requests.

Section Advanced Features

  • Natural Language Action Search: Find specific API capabilities by describing the intent rather than knowing the exact endpoint.
  • Transparent Credential Refresh: Automatically handles expired tokens without interrupting long-running automation tasks.
  • Multi-Agent Support: Optimized tooling adjustments for various harnesses including openclaw, claude, and windsurf.
  • Long-Polling Connections: Built-in --wait functionality for managing asynchronous connection building states.
  • Direct API Proxy: High-level proxy support for any Section endpoint not covered by existing pre-built actions.
