What is SEOmatic SEO Audit?

SEOmatic SEO Audit is an Openclaw Skills integration that performs a complete, zero-cost health check for a connected website through the SEOmatic MCP server. It combines Google Search Console performance trends, precomputed SEO diagnoses, index inspection, site-wide technical crawling, and AI-search citation visibility into one actionable report.

The skill emphasizes trustworthy recommendations: it reports only data returned by connected tools, clearly identifies partial crawl coverage, and never asks the user for a domain because the tools are scoped to the connected workspace. Fixes can be prepared for approval through SEOmatic, but no change goes live until the user explicitly approves it.

SEOmatic SEO Audit Use Cases

  • Run a complete SEO audit when a user asks how their site is performing or requests a website health check.
  • Compare the latest 28-day Google Search Console performance with the prior period.
  • Find pages with strong rankings but weak click-through rates and identify quick-win opportunities.
  • Detect keyword cannibalization, seasonality patterns, sitemap concerns, and other precomputed Search Console insights.
  • Inspect indexing health for the site’s highest-impact pages.
  • Discover duplicate or missing metadata, thin content, noindex leaks, and broken links through a technical crawl.
  • Review stored AI-search citation results and assess visibility in AI-generated answers.
  • Create approval-ready SEO tasks for fixable issues when the connected plan supports agent actions.

How SEOmatic SEO Audit Works

  1. Establish a baseline with gsc_performance, comparing clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for the last 28 days against the previous period.
  2. Review gsc_insights for precomputed diagnoses such as cannibalization, CTR outliers, seasonality, and sitemap health; do not recreate these diagnoses from raw data.
  3. Use gsc_indexing to batch-inspect the most important pages identified in the performance baseline.
  4. Run site_audit to evaluate technical and on-page issues across the connected site, while disclosing if the crawl is partial.
  5. Read the stored AI visibility results with ai_citations using the scan_results action. Offer run_ai_visibility_scan only when the user requests a fresh scan because it consumes credits.
  6. Synthesize the findings into a ranked list, placing quick wins first, especially CTR outliers with an average position of 10 or better, followed by structural issues.
  7. Quantify recommendations with the returned Search Console metrics and explain the specific fix for each issue.
  8. Offer to stage approved fixes with task_manage using the create action. Staging requires a paid plan with the agents:act scope, costs no credits, and does not execute changes automatically.
  9. If a data source is unavailable, provide the connection link returned by the tool instead of guessing or filling in missing information.

SEOmatic SEO Audit Setup

Connect the SEOmatic MCP server using OAuth or a Bearer smk_ API key. The free tier covers every read operation used by this skill; staging actions require the appropriate paid-plan permissions.

# MCP endpoint
https://app.seomatic.ai/api/mcp

Configuration details:

  • MCP server name: seomatic
  • Transport: streamable HTTP
  • Authentication: OAuth or Bearer smk_ API key
  • API key location: https://app.seomatic.ai/dashboard/settings?tab=ai-agents
  • Required MCP server: seomatic
  • Environment variables: none
  • Local binaries: none

After authentication, ensure the connected SEOmatic workspace has access to the intended Google Search Console and website data. No domain argument is required because the tools are already scoped to the connected workspace.

SEOmatic SEO Audit Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes audit data by source, diagnostic layer, and action status rather than generating local files.

Data area Tool Information returned
Performance baseline gsc_performance 28-day versus prior-period clicks, impressions, CTR, average position, and trends
Search diagnoses gsc_insights Cannibalization, CTR outliers, seasonality verdicts, and sitemap health
Index health gsc_indexing Batch inspection results for priority pages and indexing status
Technical audit site_audit Duplicate or missing metadata, thin content, noindex leaks, broken links, and crawl coverage
AI-search visibility ai_citations Stored citation scan results from AI-search visibility analysis
Fresh AI scan run_ai_visibility_scan Newly generated AI visibility results; may consume credits
Remediation workflow task_manage Fix tasks staged for review and approval

Issue taxonomy is prioritized as follows:

  • Quick wins: CTR underperformance on pages with average position 10 or better.
  • Structural SEO issues: indexing problems, technical crawl findings, content quality issues, and site-wide metadata defects.
  • AI visibility findings: citation presence or absence based on stored scan results.
  • Action state: observed, recommended, staged for approval, or unavailable because the connected plan lacks the required action scope.

The skill does not promise a fixed export format or local artifact directory. Reports should preserve the returned metrics, distinguish full from partial crawls, and identify missing data sources with their provided connection links.

SEOmatic SEO Audit Advanced Features

  • Uses real Google Search Console data instead of relying only on generic SEO heuristics.
  • Applies a 28-day period comparison to distinguish current performance from prior trends.
  • Leverages precomputed SEOmatic diagnoses for cannibalization, CTR anomalies, seasonality, and sitemap health.
  • Combines search performance, index coverage, technical crawling, and AI-search visibility in one workflow.
  • Reuses stored AI citation scans at no cost and separates them from optional fresh scans that consume credits.
  • Prioritizes recommendations quantitatively, putting high-ranking pages with weak CTR at the top of the queue.
  • Supports approval-based remediation through task_manage without directly publishing or executing changes.
  • Preserves user control: every staged change requires approval and can be rolled back through SEOmatic.
  • Enforces honest reporting for missing data, partial crawls, unavailable permissions, and free-plan action limits.
  • Requires no local environment variables or binaries, making the integration lightweight for Openclaw Skills deployments.
