What is SnapAPI?

SnapAPI is a robust web intelligence suite designed to give AI agents eyes on the internet. It provides a single REST API with six core capabilities, including visual captures, structured data extraction, and change detection. By integrating this tool into your collection of Openclaw Skills, you allow your agents to not only see the web via screenshots and PDFs but also deeply understand it through semantic analysis of headings, links, and metadata.

Built for developers and automation experts, the service handles the complexities of headless browser management, JavaScript rendering, and technology detection. Whether you are building an agent for SEO research, competitor analysis, or visual testing, SnapAPI offers a high-performance interface to convert the messy web into actionable data.

SnapAPI Use Cases

  • Tracking competitor pricing and receiving alerts via webhooks when changes occur.
  • Generating link previews and SEO reports using structured metadata extraction.
  • Providing visual context to multimodal AI models by capturing full-page screenshots.
  • Archiving web pages as high-quality PDFs for compliance or reporting.
  • Batch processing multiple URLs to compare layouts or extract text content at scale.

How SnapAPI Works

  1. The agent or user initiates a request to the SnapAPI REST gateway using a valid API key for authentication.
  2. Depending on the endpoint, SnapAPI initializes a headless browser session to navigate to and render the target URL.
  3. For visual tasks, the engine captures a screenshot or generates a PDF after the page has fully loaded and executed relevant scripts.
  4. For analytical tasks, the service parses the DOM to extract structured elements like headings, forms, and meta tags.
  5. If monitoring is requested, SnapAPI schedules a recurring job to check the page at a specified interval, comparing content against previous versions.
  6. The final output, whether binary image data or a JSON object, is returned to the agent to be integrated into its workflow.

SnapAPI Setup

To start using SnapAPI, you must first obtain an API key from the official website. Once you have your key, configure it as an environment variable to integrate it with your Openclaw Skills.

# Set your API key in the environment
export SNAPAPI_API_KEY='your_api_key_here'

# Install the plugin if you are using the OpenClaw CLI
openclaw plugins install snapapi

SnapAPI Data Schema & Taxonomy

SnapAPI organizes its intelligence output based on the specific endpoint used. Below is a summary of the data returned by primary functions:

Feature Output Format Key Data Points
Analysis JSON Title, description, headings list, links, text content, forms, and tech stack
Metadata JSON Open Graph tags, Twitter cards, favicon, and canonical URLs
Screenshot Binary PNG, JPEG, or WEBP image at custom resolutions
PDF Binary A4/Letter documents with custom margins and orientation
Monitor Webhook/JSON Change detection alerts and interval status
Usage JSON Current request count, tier limits, and reset dates

SnapAPI Advanced Features

  • Webhook notifications that trigger external systems automatically when page content changes occur.
  • Custom HTML rendering to generate high-quality images or previews from raw HTML strings.
  • Multi-format screenshot support including Full Page captures and Dark Mode emulation.
  • Batch processing capabilities to execute actions across an array of URLs in a single request.
  • Built-in technology fingerprinting to identify the backend and frontend frameworks used by a website.
