What is spaces-listener?

The spaces-listener skill provides a seamless way to archive and analyze audio content from X/Twitter. By leveraging yt-dlp for high-quality recording and OpenAI Whisper for local transcription, this skill allows users to convert long-form audio into searchable text and concise summaries. It is designed to run in the background as part of your Openclaw Skills library, making it ideal for monitoring multiple concurrent events without interrupting your primary developer workflow.

This skill automates the entire lifecycle of audio content management, from the initial stream capture to the final AI-generated summary. It ensures that valuable insights shared in ephemeral social audio spaces are preserved and made accessible for research, content creation, or record-keeping.

spaces-listener Use Cases

  • Archive live X/Twitter Spaces for later reference or regulatory compliance.
  • Generate searchable text transcripts of industry discussions for deep research.
  • Produce AI-powered summaries of multi-hour audio sessions to quickly extract key takeaways.
  • Monitor and record multiple concurrent X Spaces simultaneously using managed background processes.

How spaces-listener Works

  1. Initialize a recording by providing a Space URL, which triggers a background process assigned a unique ID.
  2. Monitor the recording status through CLI commands to verify connectivity and progress.
  3. Upon completion, the audio file is automatically transferred from a temporary staging area to a dedicated output directory.
  4. Execute transcription using preferred Whisper models, choosing between speed and high-fidelity accuracy.
  5. Generate an AI-driven summary from the resulting transcript to highlight speakers and important discussion points.

spaces-listener Setup

To get started with this component of your Openclaw Skills, install the necessary system dependencies via Homebrew:

brew install yt-dlp ffmpeg openai-whisper

To enable the AI summarization feature, ensure your OPENAI_API_KEY is configured in your environment variables. Transcription will remain functional even without an API key using local Whisper models.

spaces-listener Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes all output into structured subdirectories located at ~/Dropbox/ClawdBox/XSpaces/ for easy synchronization and access.

spaces-listener Advanced Features

  • Support for concurrent background recordings with dedicated ID management.
