What is wacli?

The wacli skill provides a robust interface for interacting with WhatsApp directly from the command line, specifically designed for use within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It bridges the gap between AI agents and mobile messaging, allowing for the automation of outbound communications and the retrieval of historical chat data. Unlike standard user-facing chat tools, wacli is optimized for developer workflows, enabling tasks like group messaging, file distribution, and deep message indexing.

By incorporating this skill into your environment, you empower your agent to perform administrative messaging tasks without manual intervention. It utilizes a secure local storage system and requires explicit authentication, ensuring that your Openclaw Skills operations remain both efficient and secure while handling sensitive communication data.

wacli Use Cases

  • Sending automated notifications or updates to specific WhatsApp contacts or groups.
  • Searching through extensive chat archives for specific keywords, invoices, or dates.
  • Synchronizing WhatsApp history to a local machine for data analysis or backup purposes.
  • Programmatically sending PDF reports or images to project stakeholders.
  • Backfilling historical messages from specific threads to provide context to an AI agent within Openclaw Skills.

How wacli Works

  1. The user authenticates the session by running the auth command and scanning the generated QR code with their mobile device.
  2. The local database is initialized in the home directory to store chat metadata and message history.
  3. The agent uses search or list commands to identify the correct Jabber ID (JID) for individuals or groups.
  4. For outbound tasks, the agent prepares the message or file and requests explicit user confirmation to ensure safety.
  5. Commands are executed via the CLI, and the agent parses JSON-formatted output to confirm success or handle errors.

wacli Setup

To utilize this skill, the OpenClawProvider must be active on your system.
