What is Wedding Speech?

Wedding Speech is an Openclaw Skills workflow for turning scattered memories and half-formed drafts into a polished wedding toast that feels personal, funny, and safe for a mixed crowd.

It uses a strict structure built around one story, one pivot, one direct address, and one final toast, so the speech stays under four minutes, avoids inside jokes and awkward roasting, and still gives the speaker delivery notes plus a cut list of anything risky.

Wedding Speech Use Cases

  • You need a best man, maid of honour, parent, or friend speech for a wedding.
  • You have several stories and need help choosing the one with the strongest emotional payoff.
  • Your draft is too long, too inside, or too focused on the speaker.
  • You need a grandmother-safe version with risky material removed.
  • You want a clean toast ending, pause guidance, and a list of jokes to cut.
  • You are using Openclaw Skills to turn rough notes into a reliable, repeatable wedding speech workflow.

How Wedding Speech Works

  1. Collect the role, real relationship to the couple, 1-3 candidate stories, honest thoughts about the partner, and audience constraints.
  2. Pick one story with a clear, character-revealing ending and discard extra anecdotes instead of compressing them.
  3. Build the arc: harmless opener, single story, pivot to the partner, direct address to the couple, and a final toast.
  4. Generate a 300-500 word speech in the speaker's voice that lands the emotional shift without dragging past the time limit.
  5. Add delivery notes for pacing and laughter, then produce a cut list of any stories or jokes that should not survive.
  6. Validate the result against the quality checks: under 500 words, no exes, no roasting, no insider-only lines, and the couple's names last.

Wedding Speech Setup

Install or copy the skill into your Openclaw Skills workspace. If your environment uses a local skills folder, place the SKILL.md file there:

mkdir -p ~/openclaw-skills/wedding-speech
cp SKILL.md ~/openclaw-skills/wedding-speech/

Then provide the required inputs:

  • Role: best man, maid of honour, parent, or friend
  • Real relationship to the couple
  • 1-3 stories, including any unusable ones for filtering
  • Honest opinion of the partner
  • Audience shape and any cultural or religious constraints

No extra build step is required. Openclaw Skills will use the supplied inputs to generate the speech, delivery notes, and cut list.

Wedding Speech Data Schema & Taxonomy

Skill structure

Section Purpose
Frontmatter Declares the skill identity, description, homepage, and Openclaw metadata
Required Inputs Captures the role, relationship, stories, partner view, and audience shape
Arc Enforces the speech pattern: opener, story, pivot, direct address, toast
Output Format Defines the generated speech, delivery notes, and cut list
Quality Checks Validates length, tone, audience safety, and ending constraints
Anti-Patterns Blocks roasting, exes, self-centered tangents, and overlength speeches

Input taxonomy

  • role: best man, maid of honour, parent, or friend
  • relationship_context: the speaker's real connection to the couple
  • story_candidates: 1-3 anecdotes, including unusable material that may contain a usable kernel
  • partner_view: what the speaker honestly thinks of the partner; this becomes the pivot
  • audience_shape: grandparents, mixed families, humour threshold, and cultural or religious considerations

Generated output schema

Output block Description Constraints
speech The final wedding toast 300-500 words, 2-4 minutes, couple's names last
delivery_notes Performance guidance Pause points, pacing, and the reminder to hold the glass down until the toast
cut_list Removed material Every excluded joke or story with a one-line reason

Content rules

  • One story only; extra anecdotes are cut, not compressed into a montage.
  • Praise must be specific and evidence-based, not generic.
  • Each line must pass the inside-joke test for the median guest.
  • Edgy lines survive only with explicit clearance.
  • The speech must end on the toast, not on an extra reflection or epilogue.

Wedding Speech Advanced Features

  • Single-story compression that prevents the common overstuffed wedding-speech failure mode.
  • Audience-aware filtering for grandparents, mixed families, and cultural or religious constraints.
  • A built-in cut list that records discarded jokes so they do not creep back into the final draft.
  • Delivery notes that help the speaker manage pauses, laughter, and pace without overexplaining.
  • Strict end-state validation for Openclaw Skills workflows: under four minutes, no exes, no roasting, and the couple's names close the speech.
  • Quality gates that keep the speaker's own story from taking over the toast.
