What is ZenQuote?

ZenQuote is a lightweight and powerful integration designed for the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It enables AI coding agents and automated assistants to fetch real-time inspirational content, ranging from the official quote of the day to random bursts of wisdom. By leveraging the ZenQuotes.io API, this skill provides developers with a seamless way to inject motivation into their workflows or automated communication channels.

The skill is built with efficiency in mind, utilizing standard system tools like curl and jq to ensure compatibility across Linux and macOS environments. Whether you need a text-based quote for a terminal greeting or a high-quality quote image for a messaging platform, ZenQuote handles the request and formatting automatically, ensuring you stay inspired without leaving your development environment.

ZenQuote Use Cases

  • Automating a 9:00 AM daily inspiration broadcast to a specific chat ID.
  • Fetching random motivational quotes during long coding sessions via natural language commands.
  • Generating and sharing quote images with proper attribution for social or team channels.
  • Batching multiple quotes (up to 5) to create a curated list of wisdom for research or content creation.

How ZenQuote Works

  1. The AI agent receives a command or triggers a scheduled cron job for a quote.
  2. The zenquote.sh script executes a curl request to the ZenQuotes.io API endpoint (today, random, or image).
  3. The raw JSON response is parsed using jq to extract the quote text, author, and formatting.
  4. If an image is requested, the script downloads the asset to a local temporary directory and generates a metadata JSON.
  5. The skill returns the formatted content to the Openclaw Skills interface, including the mandatory attribution link.

ZenQuote Setup

Ensure you have curl and jq installed on your system. You can install ZenQuote directly into your agent environment using the following commands:

# Install via the OpenClaw CLI
openclaw skills install zenquote

# Alternative: Manual installation from source
git clone https://github.com/chrisluo5311/zenquote-skill.git ~/.openclaw/skills/zenquote

ZenQuote Data Schema & Taxonomy
