Is dictation really free?

Yes, it really is! Since Onit Dictate runs fully on-device, there's no backend to charge for.

How do you make money?

In addition to Onit Dictate, we have other paid products, like Onit QuickEdit. We're hoping that if you like our free dictation product, you'll give the paid products a try too. But if not, no worries! Enjoy the dictation on us. Well actually, it's on your Mac, since everything runs locally.

Are you collecting and/or selling my data?

We get it — free usually means you're the product. Not here. Your voice is processed entirely on your Mac and we never see or hear what you dictate. Transcription history is saved locally, but you can delete it or disable it anytime. We collect anonymous usage analytics to improve the product, but never your audio or text — and you can opt out of that too in settings.

How is Onit different to Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper or Willow Voice?

1. Onit Dictate is free. 2. Onit is entirely locally, so your transcripts are never sent to the cloud. Otherwise, they're quite similar.

Where does Onit Dictation work?

Anywhere on your Mac! That includes all your apps and websites. Anywhere you type.

Is there a Dictation Shortcut?

Yes we've set up a universal hotkey for Onit dictation. It's CapsLock by default but you can change it to anything you'd like!

Does it send my voice to the cloud?

Nope! We take pride in that Onit's Voice Dictation is fully local. However, if you choose to use other Onit products, like QuickEdit, some remote processing is invovled.
