Introduction

Welcome back to my Channel! In this tutorial, I will Show You how to make a fleece-lined puffer jacket for your baby girl. This cozy and stylish jacket is perfect for the cold weather. If you're interested in learning how to achieve this look, stay tuned and let's get started!

Material preparation

Before we begin, let's Gather all the materials we need. You will need one and a half yards of Fox print fleece, one and a half yards of ripstop nylon, a pack of quilt batting, and a 14-inch separating zipper. For the pattern, we will use a long sleeve hooded tee.

Tracing and cutting the pattern

To start, fold the long sleeve hooded tee in half and Trace around the body. Repeat this step by folding it in half to the front and trace around again. Next, lay the sleeve down and trace around it. Fold the hood in half and trace around it as well. Add a half-inch seam allowance to all the pattern pieces, including the front opening. Cut the back piece on the fold, the sleeves twice on the fold, and the hood into two separate pieces with seam allowance added to the front opening.

Sewing the outer jacket

Now, let's cut the Fabric using the pattern pieces. Cut the back piece, two front pieces, two sleeves, and two hood pieces for the outer jacket. Repeat the same process for the fleece lining and the quilt batting, cutting four layers for each piece. Begin by lining up the back piece with the quilt batting layers and sew three horizontal lines across the center, 3 inches apart. Do the same for the front pieces and the sleeves.

Adding pockets (optional)

If you want to add pockets to the jacket, now is the time. Place the pocket pieces 3 inches from the bottom on the back piece, front facing in. Sew them down with a straight stitch. Repeat this step for the other pocket pieces on both sides of the front jacket pieces. Once the pockets are attached, line up the back and front jacket pieces, front facing in, and sew them together across the shoulders, down around the pockets, and down the sides with a straight stitch. Sew the sleeves down the sides as well.

Sewing the lining

Next, sew the lining together using the same steps as the outer jacket. Sew straight down the sides, just like we did for the jacket. Once both the jacket and the lining are sewn together, cut off the excess fabric from the seam allowance and turn them right side out.

Installing the zipper

To attach the zipper, separate both pieces first. Take the left side of the zipper, flip it over, and place it right side facing down on top of the left side opening of the front jacket. Pin it in place 1/2 inch from the bottom. Repeat the same process for the right side of the zipper, flipping it over to the back and pinning it in place on the right side opening, 1/2 inch from the bottom. Double-check the placement and functionality of the zipper before sewing it down with a straight stitch.

Attaching the hood

Grab the hood and the hood lining. Turn the hood of the jacket right side out and Align the seam at the top with the top seam of the lining. Pin them together, right sides facing in, and sew across with a straight stitch. Cut off the excess fabric from the seam allowance and turn the hood right side out. Sew a top stitch across the front opening of the hood, making sure the lining is tucked completely underneath.

Sewing the neckline

Pin the center point of the back neckline of the jacket and the bottom seam of the hood together, front facing in. Then, pin the center point of the neckline with the seam of the hood and the center point of the jacket neckline together. Sew them together with a straight stitch. Turn the jacket and the lining right side out, with the right side of the lining facing the other side of the hood. Pin all three layers together at the center point and Continue pinning all three layers together on both sides. Sew around with a straight stitch.

Finishing touches

To close the bottom of the jacket, fold and pin a half inch at the seam of the jacket and the lining. Fold a half inch inside the jacket and the lining and pin both sides together along the bottom opening of the jacket. Sew across the edge with a straight stitch. To finish the opening of the sleeves, make cuffs. Measure the length of the end of the sleeve and cut two cuff pieces double the length of the opening plus one inch for seam allowance. Fold the cuff pieces over and sew the sides down with a straight stitch. Fold the seam over in half and continue folding around. Attach the cuffs to the sleeves and sew them together around the opening, leaving a one-inch opening. Insert elastic through the opening and sew it closed.
