Introduction

Welcome to day 50 of our Nightfall playthrough! In this article, we will take a look at our progress so far, our goals for the medium and long term, and how we plan to achieve them. We'll discuss everything from our starting point and resources to dealing with biters, transitioning to trains, and building a manufacturing base. We'll also explore our power production situation and Outline our future plans for research and expansion. So grab a seat and let's dive in!

Starting Point and Resources

Our initial spawn point was strategically located near patches of resources. While some of these resources have already been utilized, we plan to refactor our setup in the near future. We initially tapped into a copper patch to fuel our smelters for building materials and ammunition. Additionally, we had to deal with the constant threat of biters due to this being a rampant AI playthrough. However, we managed to clear out and claim a significant amount of territory for ourselves.

Dealing with Biters

With the threat of biters ever-present, we put up walls to protect our base. While we occasionally get attacked, we have managed to keep them at bay by effectively destroying spawners and controlling their evolution. By focusing on destroying spawners rather than just waiting for pollution to trigger attacks, we have been able to keep their aggression under control.

Transition to Trains

Due to the spread-out nature of resources in our RSO rail world playthrough, we had to adopt trains early on. We scouted and found our first iron patch to set up our smelting array. Our supply trains have been crucial in keeping our base supplied with ammo and materials. While we initially planned for larger-Scale production, we scaled back and built smaller smelting facilities to meet our Current needs.

Building a Manufacturing Base

Our next step is to turn our bootstrap base into a larger-scale manufacturing facility. We have blueprints for various mall modules, including a belt mall, electronics mall, rail and engines mall, and assembler mall. These modules will enable us to automate the production of materials and items such as power poles, inserters, and assemblers. We also plan to set up a pax train station and a centralized mall plaza for easy access to these items.

Power Production

Currently, our power usage is quite low, and we have been running on steam power. Our solid fuel setup, fueled by coal, has been sufficient to meet our needs. With 93 boilers, we have more than enough power to sustain our base. However, we may consider upgrading to red belts for increased power throughput once our base expands.

Future Plans and Expansion

In the future, we plan to set up a dedicated science facility to properly research blue science. This will involve building larger-scale production facilities for military science and unlocking new technologies such as tanks and logistics systems. We also aim to explore the map further, expanding our reach and tapping into new resources. Eventually, we plan to convert this bootstrap base into a dedicated rocket launch facility.

Researching Blue Science

To progress in the game, we need to research blue science. This will allow us to unlock vital technologies such as insert capacity bonus, mining productivity, military 3, and high-tech science. These advancements will enable us to improve our base's capabilities and explore more efficiently.

Exploring for Resources

While we have found scattered patches of resources, our goal is to find larger deposits that can sustain our growing needs. We plan to deploy radars to the edges of the map, allowing us to locate valuable resources such as copper, iron, and stone. These resources will be crucial for expanding our manufacturing capabilities and supporting our future endeavors.

Conclusion

We have made significant progress in our Nightfall playthrough, from establishing our initial base to dealing with biters and transitioning to trains. Our next steps involve building a manufacturing base and expanding our power production. With blue science on the horizon, We Are excited to unlock new technologies and explore further. Stay tuned for future updates as we Continue our Journey in Factorio!
