  • Businesses seeking reliable n8n templates for complex data restructuring projects.

  • Users who need to automate data validation and standardization using the Google Sheets n8n node.

  • Automation specialists looking for a high-performance n8n workflow for batch processing large customer lists.

Overview

This robust n8n workflow solves the complex problem of migrating customer profile data between Squarespace and Shopify, where standard exports often require tedious manual restructuring. By utilizing the Google Sheets n8n node, this automation offers two primary paths: importing new customer profile files via a Webhook n8n trigger or processing existing data already stored in your spreadsheet.

The core value of this n8n template lies in its automated field mapping and data standardization. It ensures that crucial billing and contact information from Squarespace profiles (like address lines, zip codes, and phone numbers) is accurately transformed into the specific customer and default address fields required by Shopify's customer import format, saving significant time and reducing migration errors. This specific n8n workflow dynamically adds tags and ensures data consistency across the platforms.

How it Works

The n8n workflow operates through two distinct pathways, both culminating in structured data written to a Google Sheet ready for Shopify import.

  1. Webhook Submission (New Data): The process starts with the Webhook n8n trigger, configured to accept a POST request containing the Squarespace customer profile file. The Extract items from webhook submission n8n node parses the binary file contents into structured JSON data items. The data then flows to the Loop Over Items n8n node, which batches the records (up to 1000 items) for efficient processing. Next, the data is simultaneously handled by two branches: a) The raw data is stored or updated in the squarespaceprofiles Google Sheet using the Append Squarespace profiles n8n node, and b) The data is mapped and transformed into the Shopify-ready format using the Shopify Customers n8n node, which writes the final converted output to the designated shopifytemplate sheet.

  1. Manual Conversion (Existing Data): Alternatively, the conversion can be initiated manually using the Manual trigger n8n node. This path uses the Read Squarespace profiles n8n node to fetch all existing records stored in the raw Squarespace sheet. This extracted data bypasses the initial input steps and is immediately processed by the Shopify Customers n8n node for conversion, making it easy to re-run conversions or process large existing datasets whenever needed. This flexible n8n workflow design ensures maximum utility.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import the n8n Workflow: Copy the provided JSON data and paste it directly into your n8n instance using the 'Import Workflow' option.

  2. Google Sheets Credentials: You must configure a valid Google Sheets OAuth2 API credential. Assign this credential to the three Google Sheets n8n nodes within the workflow.

  3. Spreadsheet Setup: You will need a Google Spreadsheet containing two tabs: one for the raw Squarespace data (named or identified by GID 144532755, often labeled 'squarespaceprofiles') and one for the Shopify-ready data (named or identified by GID 15798644, often labeled 'shopifytemplate'). Ensure column headers match the fields specified in the Google Sheets n8n nodes.

  4. Activate the Webhook n8n Trigger: If using the automated path, activate the workflow and retrieve the Webhook URL from the Webhook n8n node. Configure your external system or upload mechanism to post the Squarespace profile export file to this URL.

  5. Testing: Execute the manual trigger path first to ensure credential and sheet connectivity is sound before relying on the Webhook n8n trigger.

Node Details

Webhook: This serves as the primary n8n trigger for external input. It listens for POST requests at the /submit-profiles path and expects a file containing the Squarespace customer data.
Extract items from webhook submission: This utility n8n node is essential for processing the binary file received via the webhook, extracting the individual data records for downstream manipulation.
Google Sheets (Append Squarespace profiles): Operation is appendOrUpdate. This n8n node saves the raw incoming Squarespace data to the dedicated sheet, using Email as the matching column. It maps 30+ fields from the input.
Google Sheets (Read Squarespace profiles): Operation is Read. Used when the Manual trigger n8n node is activated, fetching the full list of profiles previously stored for conversion.
Loop Over Items: Configured with a batch size of 1000, this Split In Batches n8n node handles large datasets efficiently, ensuring the data is processed in manageable chunks.
Google Sheets (Shopify Customers): This is the core transformation n8n node. It uses the appendOrUpdate operation in the Shopify sheet, matching on Email. Key configurations include extensive data mapping (e.g., Billing Name to Default Address Company) and dynamic tagging using expressions: Tags is set to =n8n, squarespace, {{ $json['Last Order Date'] ? "ground-control," : "" }}. This complex mapping makes this n8n workflow highly valuable.
