Overview

Maintaining consistency on social media can be challenging, especially when focusing on fitness. This powerful n8n workflow solves this by seamlessly integrating your athletic achievements with your Twitter profile. Utilizing a webhook-based n8n trigger, the system listens for new activities (runs, rides, etc.) created in your Strava account. Once detected, the n8n node automatically pulls the activity details, formats them into an engaging post, and publishes it to Twitter. This specific n8n workflow ensures your followers are immediately updated on your progress without requiring any manual intervention, freeing up more time for your workouts.

How it Works

This automation begins with a dedicated n8n trigger designed for Strava. The logical flow is straightforward and highly efficient:

  1. Strava Activity Detection: The n8n workflow starts executing when the Strava Trigger n8n node receives a webhook notification. This specific n8n trigger is configured to fire only upon the creation of a new activity.

  2. Data Extraction: The incoming data payload from Strava contains all relevant metrics, including the activity name (e.g., 'Morning Run') and the distance completed.

  3. Tweet Generation: The data is passed to the Twitter n8n node. This node uses an expression to construct the tweet text dynamically, incorporating the activity's distance (in meters) and the activity name pulled directly from the output of the Strava Trigger n8n node.

  4. Publication: The Twitter n8n node publishes the newly generated, personalized update to your linked Twitter account, completing the execution of this n8n workflow.

Installation Guide

To deploy this n8n workflow, follow these steps:

  1. Import: Copy the provided JSON data and import it directly into your n8n instance using the 'New' menu -> 'Import from JSON'.

  2. Strava Credentials: The Strava Trigger n8n node requires OAuth2 credentials. You must set up a Strava application (via their API settings) and create a matching StravaOAuth2Api credential in your n8n instance.

  3. Twitter Credentials: The Twitter n8n node requires OAuth1 credentials. You must link your Twitter developer account and configure the required TwitterOAuth1Api credential (e.g., twitter-Harshil) in n8n.

  4. Activate: After confirming both credentials are set up for their respective n8n node, ensure the n8n trigger is saved and then activate the n8n workflow to start listening for Strava updates.

Node Details

Strava Trigger:
Function: Acts as the primary n8n trigger, initiating the n8n workflow execution upon receipt of a webhook event from Strava.
Key Configuration: Configured to watch for the create event on the activity object.
Twitter:
Function: Posts the formatted athletic update to the connected Twitter account.
Key Configuration: The tweet text uses a dynamic expression to insert metrics: =I ran {{$node["Strava Trigger"].json["objectdata"]["distance"]}} meters and completed my {{$node["Strava Trigger"].json["objectdata"]["name"]}}!. This ensures every post accurately reflects the distance and name of the activity captured by the initial n8n trigger.
