What is Beestat?

The Beestat skill provides a technical gateway to your ecobee thermostat telemetry, including real-time temperature, humidity, and air quality metrics. By utilizing this within the Openclaw Skills ecosystem, developers can programmatically access climate data and HVAC performance history that goes far beyond the standard ecobee interface. It is designed for users who need precise control and data visibility over their home automation environment.

This skill synthesizes data from the Beestat API, offering deep insights into indoor air health (CO2 and VOC levels) and sensor occupancy. Whether you are building a personal dashboard or automating home climate responses, this Openclaw Skills extension offers the structured data required for advanced smart home management.

Beestat Use Cases

  • Checking live indoor temperature and humidity levels from a terminal.
  • Monitoring CO2 and VOC levels to ensure a healthy indoor environment.
  • Reviewing HVAC runtime history to analyze energy efficiency and usage patterns.
  • Checking room occupancy via remote ecobee sensors for security or automation triggers.
  • Integrating thermostat status into custom Openclaw Skills automation scripts.

How Beestat Works

  1. The skill interfaces with the Beestat API via the beestat-cli tool.
  2. Commands are issued to query specific endpoints such as status, sensors, or air quality.
  3. The tool retrieves data synchronized from your ecobee account through the Beestat cloud service.
  4. Telemetry is processed and returned in either a formatted terminal view or structured JSON for further processing.
  5. Users can force a data synchronization with ecobee to ensure the most current information is available to Openclaw Skills.

Beestat Setup

To begin using this skill, install the CLI and configure your credentials:

npm install -g beestat-cli
  1. Register an account at beestat.io and link your ecobee device.
  2. Obtain an API key by emailing contact@beestat.io with your thermostat serial number.
  3. Export your API key as an environment variable:
export BEESTAT_API_KEY="your-key"

Beestat Data Schema & Taxonomy

The Beestat skill organizes data into several logical structures, which can be exported via the --json flag for use in other Openclaw Skills workflows:

Command Data Fields Included
status Current temperature, humidity, setpoints, and outdoor weather.
sensors List of remote sensors, including temperature and occupancy state.
air-quality CO2 (ppm), VOC (ppm), and overall air quality score.
summary HVAC runtime history (default 7 days) and equipment cycles.
thermostats Hardware model details and HVAC system capabilities.

Beestat Advanced Features

  • Scripting Support: Every command includes a --json flag, making it compatible with other Openclaw Skills for complex automation.
  • Comprehensive Air Quality Monitoring: Provides specific ppm thresholds for CO2 and VOC to trigger ventilation alerts.
  • Extended Runtime Analysis: Query custom timeframes (e.g., --days 14) to identify long-term climate trends.
  • Occupancy Logic: Access sensor-specific occupancy data to determine house activity levels programmatically.
  • Force Sync Capability: Manual synchronization ensures Openclaw Skills work with the latest ecobee cloud data.
