What is FlareSolverr?

FlareSolverr is a powerful tool designed to act as a bridge between your automated scripts and websites protected by Cloudflare. It addresses the common issue where direct curl or HTTP requests fail with 403 Forbidden errors or anti-bot challenge pages. By using a headless browser to solve these challenges in the background, it enables Openclaw Skills to access protected content effectively.

This skill is essential for developers and researchers who need reliable access to web data without being blocked by browser integrity checks or JavaScript challenges. It provides the necessary cookies and user-agent strings to maintain a legitimate browser session for subsequent requests.

FlareSolverr Use Cases

  • Bypassing 403 Forbidden errors when standard HTTP clients are blocked.
  • Solving Cloudflare challenge pages, including JS challenges and browser checks.
  • Overcoming bot detection and anti-scraping measures on protected domains.
  • Automating data extraction from sites that require browser-level verification.

How FlareSolverr Works

  1. The Openclaw Skills agent attempts a direct request which fails due to Cloudflare protection.
  2. A request is sent to the FlareSolverr API containing the target URL and optional parameters.
  3. FlareSolverr launches a headless browser instance to solve the site challenge.
  4. The browser captures the valid cookies and the full HTML response after the challenge is cleared.
  5. The agent receives the structured solution and can reuse the session details for further data processing.

FlareSolverr Setup

  1. Run FlareSolverr using Docker (recommended):
docker run -d --name flaresolverr -p 8191:8191 ghcr.io/flaresolverr/flaresolverr:latest
  1. Configure the environment variable for your Openclaw Skills workspace:
export FLARESOLVERR_URL="http://localhost:8191"
  1. Verify the service is healthy:
curl -s "$FLARESOLVERR_URL/health" | jq '.'

FlareSolverr Data Schema & Taxonomy

FlareSolverr provides a comprehensive JSON response containing the solved solution and session metadata.

Property Description
status Indicates if the challenge was successfully solved (e.g., ok, error).
solution.response The full HTML content of the protected page.
solution.cookies An array of cookies required to maintain the bypass (e.g., cf_clearance).
solution.userAgent The specific User-Agent string used by the headless browser.
solution.status The HTTP status code returned by the target site.

FlareSolverr Advanced Features

  • Session management to persist cookies and browser context across multiple requests.
  • Support for POST requests with custom postData and JSON payloads.
  • Proxy integration to route traffic through external proxy servers for IP rotation.
  • Binary content handling with the ability to download files via base64 encoding.
  • Custom User-Agent and header support to mimic specific browser environments.
