What is Google Workspace?

The Google Workspace skill provides a robust bridge between your AI coding agent and the Google ecosystem. By leveraging Openclaw Skills, developers can empower agents to handle communication via Gmail, schedule meetings in Calendar, manage data in Sheets, and generate documentation in Docs. This skill is essential for building autonomous workflows that require deep integration with professional productivity tools.

This integration utilizes the official Google API Python client to ensure secure and reliable communication with Google services. Whether you are building an automated personal assistant or a data-driven enterprise tool, this addition to your Openclaw Skills library provides the necessary primitives for file management, contact synchronization, and spreadsheet manipulation.

Google Workspace Use Cases

  • Automating email responses and sorting unread messages in Gmail.
  • Synchronizing project deadlines directly to a Google Calendar.
  • Scraping data from the web and appending it directly to a Google Sheet.
  • Programmatically generating reports or meeting minutes in Google Docs.
  • Managing and searching professional contacts using the People API.

How Google Workspace Works

  1. The agent initializes the connection using a secure OAuth 2.0 flow facilitated by Openclaw Skills.
  2. Authentication credentials (credentials.json) are exchanged for a local token.pickle to enable persistent access.
  3. Specific API services such as Gmail v1, Calendar v3, or Sheets v4 are instantiated through a Python helper script.
  4. The agent executes targeted commands, such as sending an email or reading a spreadsheet, using the authorized service object.
  5. Data is returned to the agent in structured formats for further processing or reporting.

Google Workspace Setup

Install the necessary Python dependencies:

pip install google-api-python-client google-auth-httplib2 google-auth-oauthlib
  1. Create a Google Cloud Project and enable Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and People APIs.
  2. Download the OAuth 2.0 credentials (Desktop app) as credentials.json to your working directory.
  3. Ensure the openclaw-agent is running on your system (Windows or macOS).
  4. Run your authentication script to trigger the browser-based OAuth flow and generate the token.pickle file for Openclaw Skills to use.

Google Workspace Data Schema & Taxonomy

The skill organizes interaction with Google Workspace using the following metadata taxonomy:

Component Data Type Description
Gmail Message Object Contains headers (From, Subject, Date), body content, and unique Message IDs.
Calendar Event Object Includes summary, location, start/end date-time, and attendee lists.
Sheets Value Range Represented as a 2D list of strings for reading and writing cell data.
Docs Document Object A structured schema containing paragraphs, text runs, and document body elements.
Drive File Metadata Tracking files via unique File IDs, names, and MIME types.

Google Workspace Advanced Features

  • Multi-service integration allowing agents to move data between Sheets and Gmail automatically.
  • Support for complex search queries using Gmail's native query syntax (e.g., is:unread has:attachment).
  • Batch update capabilities for Google Docs to perform mass text replacements or formatting.
  • Automated file management including uploading and downloading via Google Drive.
  • Secure token persistence within the Openclaw Skills environment for headless execution.
